So heres my story.....

I bought a unregistered r32 yesterday. had a rwc supplyed by the seller. had my permit to drive a Unregistered car to and from the place i bought to the licensing center.

i am literally 5 seconds away from the rego center and i can see the gates...... i get stopped by cops. and defected. He gave me a infringement to driving a unregistered vehicle of $110. i handed him my Rwc he said it was invalid, pointed out my wheels and rims are to wide and a few other minor things. Lets be honest my car probalay isnt road worthy. But the fact of the matter is i had a RWC signed by a certifyed mechanic. I had a permit to drive my unrego'd car to the rego center. he DID not hand me a defect notice form. and he did not tell me i had to get it fixed by a specifyed date. All he said was i had to take this to a shop get it fixed up and a new RWC must be written.

He did not let me drive it from where he pulled me over and i was 2 hrs away from home. i had to get a tow truck paying 280 to tow it home.

I read online that they must give you a defect notice form or copy of the defect form which should state when i need to fix this car by. Aswell as being a minor defect i should be allowed to drive it home. Yet he made me tow it home. did i just get F^%Ked by the Long Arm of the law? all because he couldnt defect a unregistered car.

He wrote down my Vin plate and gave me a fine and left.

What do i do? take it into the Rego center anyway and see what happens? I have all the papers n documents for it.

yeah he completely farked you.....take it to them man as they have no right in that situation specially if you have a permit to drive! further to that it is LEGAL for you to drive to a registered mechanic in this instance aslong as it is your nearest (in this case im assuming it was being that you are away from home)

what state are we talking about?

edit

**never mind see its in qld :P

first things first is call the OSR (similar to SDRO here in nsw) they will hold the fines and start investigating for you. also call the QLD ombudsman for police (yes they have one) and start the ball rolling that way too

ive been through a similar thing with defects (on an engineered vechile) so stand up and know what your rights are and you will be fine :)

Yep you got farked. I'd be doing exactly what Frosty said. I doubt you'd get the money back for the tow truck but there is no way I'd be paying those fines as you were doing everything by the book.

Due to the time line of what's been going on, I'd simply get another RWC and then proceed to transfer registration.

If the copper nabbed you through number plate recognition, you might as well transfer plates whilst you're at it.

OK you did the right thing getting insurance etc but your RWC is only good for that instant when the mechanic signed it.

As soon as you left the workshop, who's to say you didn't fit back the bald wheel/tyres, big exhaust etc you previously swapped with a mate.

Now I'm not suggesting that's what you did, but you can see how easily the system can be rorted and the coppers know this.

If you drive a vehicle that looks sus, you can expect to get checked out and you won't drive off without a fine of some type, revenue raising is what they're about.

Welcome to modified car world.

Did it have plates? The reason that he jotted down the VIn is so if you changed plates when registering it, the car could still be identified.

The RWC + Pre-purchased CTP + Permit = safe passage to TMR --> in an ideal world. You've been spotted in a typical skyline and pulled over. Welcome to the modded car scene.

Also, welcome to the club! Feel free to join us at an event or dinner sometime soon :)

One of the guys drives a highly modded R31 that doesn't get touched. Engine conversion and everything but it's blueplated to the hilt! Come to a meet and the guys can give you heaps of info.

Cheers

Tony

Wow thanks for all the input guys. Really appreiciate all of it. Yeah i am completely new to the modded import scene, my past cars have been a Vy ss and a F6 Typhoon. Both worked had some work but never been pulled over once. my F6 was running 500rwhp and my vy was 400rwhp.(Big lumpy cam,Dumped on 20's). Bought a skyline.. pulled over in 5 minutes of driving it. Anyway i ended up giving it a shot at the rego place. since i have all my paper work.... The lady saw the defect notice , got abit suss... called another to have a look. i thought by then i was done and would need to get my wheels taken off and taken over to the mechanics for another check but instead the other lady looked at my rwc then looked back at the defect notice on the screen said i think it should be fine to wipe that clean. hes got a rwc ahahhahahha. So stoked. Maybe one of the biggest reliefs of my life as i have just moved to qld 2 weeks ago and would be strapped for cash if needed to buy a fresh set of tyres......

Best advice I can give to avoid to much cop attention, keep it as clean as you can. Nothing obvious like dragging its guts along the ground or stupidly loud exhausts, neat clean body kits and wheels that fit in the guards. Also avoid driving late at night in the city and suburbs .

Talabe tyres are in Victoria but they will post. Being a forum sponsor, they look after your back pocket as well.

A number of the guys up here have purchased stickier rubber such as KU36 and RSRs from Option1 Garage in Hamilton and have had good things to say.

Good to hear it's sorted, Taleb Tyres in Sydney looks after me for tyres. He is also a forum sponsor/vendor and posts Australia wide. I'm in Mackay and he smashed local prices even with freight.. Ali K is the man to talk to.

I have used Taleb as well and postage was great and so was prices. I live about 30 mins from the coast. Option 1 I have always heard good things about in regards to rims and a tires as well but haven't made it there yet.

Well guys youll never beleived just what happened.......

So I thought everything was fine, Car Rego'd , took my first proper Cruise in it. All was good. Parked it outside my apartment building.

Wake up the next morning to find it was broken into , obviously taken for a joy ride and then dumped 50 metres down the road.....

Alitle bit confused why they didnt just dump the car where they had finished joy riding. Doesnt make sense.

you'd think after all the Sh!t i went through i catch a break. Now the forensics and police will arrive.

Do you think they are going to defect it again? Wheels still wide as.

    • And....if that could be true for all R34 GTTs, then it might be good. But in reality it is not really any better than my standard instruction to "go out and have a look at it yourself, and wave a tape measure around" etc etc, because as soon as you have any adjustable arms, or coilovers with smaller diameter springs, or tyres that have any bulge that goes out further than the rim, etc etc, then the simple version of the information is still potentially misleading. Plus, nothing in this is static. Everything is moving. At the rear the wheels swing inward at the top as they go up, so the clearances on the inside change as the suspension is compressed. At the front it's even worse. And then you have the difference in absolute wheel position in the arch can move around more, or less, depending on how compliant the bushes are. If, like me, you have sphericals on the front caster rods (and on the FUCAs also, but these are probably less dominant when it comes to wheel position), then your wheel will swing forward/backward under loads, as well as up/down, as well as steering angle. You end up having the simple numbers with 17 caveats/footnotes for each.

    • Actually PowerFC is probably the easiest to get basic data from, it comes with a hand controller and display so you don't need to remember to pack a laptop every time you drive. It also has a PC based viewing/logging option if required. Nissan used consult on these because back in the mid 80s, ODB was just a glint in a standard's body's eyes.  They switched to OBD shape around 2000 (my 2001 Cima had OBD shaped but not OBD compliant port) With the standard ECU there is a cable and software available to give basic data too, I think it is called Nissan Data Scan or s
