Hi guys i just got defected for a number of things mainly my BOV so i put the factory BOV back on and plumbed it in and whatever else and saughted the other defects out which were pointless...... but my point is why is my car getting an extra 3PSI from the factory BOV?? and is there a way to make the factory BOV louder?????

Making it louder technically makes it a defect again and NO it will always sound like a wet fart.... And aftermarket plumb back will give you some pigeons if its done up tight if you like that sort of thing!

You may have had a shitty fitting BOV and a boost leak before?

defects  im scared to drive my car to work everyday! its rediculous.

You have an import and therefore are a danger to 99.9% of the Australian Pubic according to Tracy Grimshaw!

Yes the defects are a little out of hand but all you can do is keep your car as close the law as possible, Atmo BOV's and too low, ald tyres etc etc are common targets so keep your car clean, legal height and quiet and you stand a better change, at the end of the day imports are targeted as the minority in them gave a bad name when they realised you could spin more than one wheel by driving something other than a commodore... Not even sure where this rant is going so i will stop here and GTFO!

hahaha i just cant see how a BOV is a defect...... i also got another defect for reflective wipers..... lol haha thats absolutely rediculous

Noise is the main thing... Venting to atmosphere etc! Unless it was already plumb back in which case it is silly!

As for reflective wipers, well that is just silly to start with :P

I drive mine a my daily, lucky the roads from my place to work are quiet so I don't see any cops. Not normally to worried as I have no defects that I know of, but I'm sure if a cop looked hard enough they would find something.

atmo bov is a defect for 2 reasons, 1 is noise, the other is emissions. oddly enough, cars started being fitted with bovs to start with for emissions.

as for reflective wipers, i can see why that would be a defect. at night they would be reflecting light back at oncoming drivers.

and in most cases, if you are driving in peak traffic times and aren't driving like a dick, you won't get a second look from the police. if you go driving around late at night you are more likely to get pulled over because of the fact that a: there is less traffic on the road, so of course you are going to stand out more, and b: generally speaking, a large portion of the people cruising around at night aren't usually the type to drive like a granny.

BOV's are not as bad as cops make out, yes they vent but its only air not exhaust gas, if I get pulled up I can see I'm going to be arrested for telling a cop he's a dumb shit (being a mechanic)

I hate that they can hand out defects for things they don't even know the name of.

the funny part is i got defected at a servo....... i was filling up fuel minding my own business and bang! they pull up and wait for me to finish filling up and 30 minutes later i see a whole bunch of tickets on my passenger seat

Yeah see that is bullshit! That is simply targetting your vehicle UNLESS you did something to get blacklisted in the past?

Actually, at the risk of getting flamed - why would you whinge about getting defected for an atmo bov?

You know they are defectable. You know they add precisely nothing to the performance of the car and only exist to attract attention.

So clearly, your bov has fulfilled the purpose that you bought it for.

Job done.

Have to agree. there are plenty of mods that you can get defected for. If you do those mods knowing that you could get booked for them then you can't really complain about getting booked. It would be like complaining because a cop booked you for doing burnouts, etc

if breathers are connected as standard to intake than its not just clean air they emit, thats the reason other than noise

    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
    • The Frenchy's kit is the way to go forward. A modern compressor that weighs about 1/2 as much, is at least twice as efficient, and will do a good job on R134a. And of course the kit has everything else you need to connect it up and have it work properly.
    • Hey all , I am in the process of having the AC system in my r32 GTST converted from r12 to r134a and I’m being told my compressor has gone bad and I will need a new one. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for what is the best route to go aside from dropping $1500 on a new oem one? I did see that Frenchy’s performance garage offers a kit to mount a Toyota compressor, has anybody actually used this kit on their car? Or is there anywhere I could purchase just a clutch? Any help is appreciated.
    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
