Hey all,

For the first time on the weekend i used my R33 GTR for something more then getting to and from work!

And ive caught the bug. Two events i LOVED so im looking at setting my car up for these two things only. (Plus going to work!)

My questions are on tyres

The first Event is straight out drags and the second event is go to whoa.

For people that dont know what it is, its run over the 1/4 mile from a standing start then at the end is a braking point and you have to stop the car inside two cones. First to stop dead inside the cones wins.

I used my normal street tyres (sorta crappy ones at that) on the weekend. I got a bit of wheel spin at the start and also the braking / stopping was a bit rubbish.

Im going to get a set of eith R33 GTR or 34 GTR rims to put specific tyres on just to use in these events etc.

Whats the best to go for? as i need them to be sticky but also need them to be able to stop very well?

Will slicks stop?

Will Semis be the go?

Or is there another option i should be looking at?

Any brands worth looking at over another?

Any help would be great,

Thanks

Both semi and full slick tyres will be better than standard road tyres however only if they are warmed up properly.

By properly I mean you will need to do a burnout for a handful of seconds and even then the fronts wont get any warmth. You will need to do this for every run too! Braking will also improve, but once again only if they are sticky and your brakes will need to be up to temp properly anyway which they never will be for this type of event.

the current crop of soft compound semis would probably be best thing for go-whoas. normal compound semis definitely work better with a bit of heat, but are still pretty good cold. I've done plenty of hillclimbs on cold semis over the years.

personally, I'd try some better street tyres before going to the trouble and expense of a seperate set of wheels and tyres. Even if you went to semis later, good street tyres are still worth having.
