Jezboosted
Me Likey. I've seen people putting headlights in the oven to break the bond etc. Do you mind posting a little "how to" on this ? Scriblez
+2 for a how to guide, keen to crack mine open as well. Cheers Steve! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423873-series-2-headlight-black-out/#findComment-6823163 Share on other sites
Steve.b
The cracking the light open was relatively easy. I took the globes out. And I took all the seals and things covering the globes off. I left the rubber seal along the top of the light was just going to risk it but it was fine. There are several little screws surrounding the light which thread into the poly carbonate take those out as well. Then I put into a preheated oven at 180 degrees and put the hole light in for about 3 and a half minutes. Then pulled it out and with a flat head screwdriver started prying the headlight apart there are some little tabs you need to bend up whiled prying the lens apart. be careful not to disfigure the plastic too much. Once I had broken the seal enough I then proceeded to pull it apart by hand. And all done. Steve.b
Yet to put one back together. But I plan on flowing the same method. But I'll just put the light in the oven with no lens. Then maybe add a little more sealant in some spots. Then push back together while everything is still hot. gts_koop
Unreal... How long did the process take from start to finish? And will it affect how the light streams etc? Love the look! Any pics of them back on the car? Steve.b
Nah front end is in pieces ATM doing a bit of an overhaul. The process of pulling apart and sanding down took maybe an hour. Then paint took 5 mins but drying time I like to leave 2 days. Then 20 min to put back together. Nah no effect to light the important reflector piece is untouched. kosmo90
Did it stink out the house when you "baked it", want to stay on the right side of the wife lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423873-series-2-headlight-black-out/#findComment-6846323 Share on other sites
Steve.b
Nah I gave it a good clean first. Then put on a flat tray wrapped in foil. Then bake away. Just be very careful not to put in for too long of plastic will melt. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423873-series-2-headlight-black-out/#findComment-6846364 Share on other sites
adey88
This thread motivated me for a little holiday project on my lights, ever since compliance hacked mine up I haven't been happy with the output. Spend a good 12 + hours today doing the blackout and projector retrofit to my lights. Bought the projectors from the retrofit source and I'm pretty happy with the results. They need some fine tuning (height) but couldn't be stuffed right now, they were pretty fiddely and required a bit of dremmeling of the housing. Fitted my aftermarket HID kit too. Happy to post some light output shots if anybody is interested. Cheers, Adrian Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/423873-series-2-headlight-black-out/#findComment-7134581 Share on other sites

adey88
Just remember to use a stopwatch as they don't take much more than 3 minutes at about 160 degrees...
