hello skyliners

just a quick question for now

i got myself a nicely rebuilt forged gtr this weekend gone

it has a power fc big single turbo 700cc injectors running 17psi and plan to up it to 20 or 25 psi but has stock air flow meters

i got told to go to z32 or r33 air flow meters but i was thinking would a map sensor be better ???

**can the power fc support a map sensor with another tune??

**would a map sensor be more recommended over bigger air flow meters??

That's why you would have a d detro just to run a map. You get the power fc to run a maf. But get a vipec or autronic (whatever it's called) if you getting another computer to run map. Much better ecu

you can't run map sensors on the l-jetro powerfc (the airflow meter version)

youd have to sell it and buy the d-jetro version and buy the map sensors and get it tuned

you shouldnt max twin z32s and its probably comparable to cost vs selling your current setup and buying a map sensor based system

Go adaptronic/vipec/link ect. Map sensor capable and a better ecu also can run dual maps for e85 and 98. Although nothing wrong with a PFC and twin z32s. You'll be doing pretty well to max twin z32s out.

Cheers Josh

just go map, everything works so much better and you can clean up your pipe work. i have had so many issues because of a maf setup that would be prevented with a map. plus if you get a map it will be with a better ecu.

Forget the FC and go a real ECU. Link, Vipec, Blackbox.

For the money you're going to spend on installation with the Power FC WITH the MAP sensors, you're much better off with another option. HOMEWORK!

ViPec and I assume Link plug ins work well and can used with either either MAFs or MAP . Goes in you std ECUs case so looks factory at a glance . I already had a Tech Edge wide band to do the oxygen sensing stuff but the V88 has all that std if you only want one box .

IMO you need WB 02 input and the ECU the ability to trim mixtures set by an AFR target table - for road anyway .

I'm far from being a good tuner but I fiddled all my start light load and cruise settings and I'm getting around (in Sydney) 13-14/100 on E70 . My 25 now uses MAP after having a PFC and Z32 and while I did get a bit better consumption with my tuning towards the end with the Apexi I wouldn't go back . I'm still learning with Vipec and MAP sensing and its slowly getting better and with modern injectors like IDs should be better again .

Be choosy with larger injectors because the best motorsport computer on the planet can't improve old tech injector abilities at really low pulse widths .

My computer reckons I'm idling at 1% injector duty cycle and its not too bad but could be a little smoother .

If I was you I'd get modern injectors first and change them over when the next computer is fitted and tuned .

A .

    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much

    • 😜 hopefully we get this instead of a new R36 GTR due to recent financial problems at Nissan. Nismo to sell a complete kit with RB26 and driveline. All starts making sense (ok maybe not) once the Nissan Leaf's (Leaves?) with stuffed EV motors/batteries hit the market cheap
