i'm guessing that your car has somewhat stiff suspension (such as coil overs). the stiffer the suspension, the more likely you are to get 3 wheels off the ground. a mate had a ceffy lowered with super hard coil overs and if you tried to jack the car up to change a front wheel, you'd barely get the front wheel off the ground and the rear would start lifting too, where as a car with soft suspension that is stock height will be able to get further off the ground without the other wheel on the same side coming off the ground. this is because the suspension on the wheel diagonal to the one you are lifting will compress more, and the other wheel on the same side to the one you are lifting will have more travel to stay on the ground.

and you will find that he has jacked it up off the main lifting points. he's jacked it up from the same point as where a mechanic would put the blocks when using a 2 post hoist.

I agree, but Mechanics don't lift a whole half-rail car from one point when it's on a hoist.
They lift from all four corners.

If he jacked the cross member, put stands under the front A arms, he would have been fine, as the weight would still be on the wheels at the back, not on foldable soft metal like the floor pan, or a partially damaged sill.


The mechanic should have had jackstands, end of story.
He's an idiot and is going to crush himself one day.

That amount and condition of rust doesn't look new. I'd say that the majority of it was definitely there before your mechanic jacked the car up!!
