I was going to ask Andrew about whether or not a balanced billet crank negated the need for a damper pulley kit on some cars - but Eric seemed to answer it for me before I could get to Andrew privately.

Bit shy still at my age hehe...

I did have a talk to one of the JEM staff at the end.

He himself could have given the type of talk on builds that Andrew gave being an RB specialist full time at JEM.

I'd like to hear him next time.

I was a bit shy as well, had a couple of questions but I figured it well be kept to myself as asking questions regarding engine builds and getting max possible KW out of a NA RB25, would most probably get me banned from all future tech nights.

haha I had the same problem, was way late due to M5. On the bright side I missed most of the nitto bit :)

This was an interesting night, and I was impressed by the professionalism and accurate answers from the JEM guys. I hadn't been there before but will put them on the list for future.

On the other hand, it was great to arrive late and miss the 4th performance in 12 months or so from the "why you should spend $15k on internals for your street car" sales pitch from Nitto. Their gear is excellent....but only 1% of people need excellent.

Great roll modelling by a senior mod / ex-president (?) for the younger SAU members there Duncan. Some of you guys never cease to amaze me.

I was asked by the great guys at JEM who are very good customers of mine, to make the trip out and give a quick presentation on our parts with the hope of maybe benefiting some of the SAU members at the Tech Night to which I obviously obliged. No big “sales pitch” just a bit of information and for me, helping out a good customer and hopefully helping out some of your members. Have actually never done something quite like this before so you might be getting a bit confused about the 4th performance somehow???

With comments like yours made on this thread I’m actually left thinking why the hell I didn’t just go home to my kids and pregnant wife the night before a public holiday instead of wasting my time and yours (luckily you were late!).

It’s just good to see another moderator feeling free to say whatever they like about whoever they like despite the intentions of the individual or company.

Next time the Nitto oil pump gets damaged on your race car from a rouge bolt going through it and you are stuck over the Christmas period with no way of fixing it, with only a few days left in a workshop before you have to get your car out I may have to think twice this time before driving down to the workshop, picking up your damaged oil pump, opening up our shop and getting a tech in to repair your unit, dropping the repaired unit back to you and all in my massive annual 1.5 week Christmas holiday. Maybe you forgot about this prime example of our commitment to our customers and this industry?? I dare say unfortunately, probably not. Anyway I would like to thank Adam, Bobby and Dean for the opportunity to showcase a few of our products and the attending SAU members for their time. The displayed vehicles were awesome and a real credit to their owners. Nitto products are not for everyone both in application and preference but that is 100% fine with me. I just hope that maybe a few members learnt a couple of things about internal components in general. I know I learnt a lot from Adam and the boys and I appreciate it.

I concur with you Andrew about 2 very immature comments by a man who knows better. I proceeded to ignore the first one at 08.18.

I have made indiscretionary comments before in my life - usually when I've been trying to be a 'smart' comic.

My apologies would then require a dose of 'humble pie'.

I'd be surprised if Duncan didn't do the same pretty soon.

I will reinforce that I felt the information you shared and the great quality of content provided on the night were excellent and on target. I was also impressed that you were able to share a bit of technical behind the scenes about your products and what you believe differentiates them in the market.

As the President of SAU NSW, I do want to thank you and all the folks at JEM for hosting such a great night and providing us with so much information to process that many of us were literally dumbfounded. I came away with a quite a lot of practical information as well as nice knowledge on how the quality control process and rigorous testing makes quality components/customisation stand out.

Like many things here on the forums there are always a multitude of views. We do our best to accommodate open discussion but this can get out of hand from time to time.

I concur with Terry and hope that Duncan's comments were simply his sarcasm not translating well here in type. I can certainly understand why you would take offense. I cannot apologize for Duncan, but I can say that I don't think that many of us share that view. In fact, I recall reading about that incident and came away quite impressed with your product and support for his situation.

Again, I need to stress that only our current elected execs can issue statements on behalf of SAU NSW. Others in the forums here (and myself from time to time) may make joking statements that are NOT the view of the club or the general population here on the forums.

I hope that you do not take a few stray comments as detracting from the larger group that is sincerely appreciative of how you support our enthusiast community.

As a younger member of SAU, I thought your presentation was very helpful and informative. I don't think you wasted your time.

I arrived a touch late to your presentation, and whilst a bit of the technical stuff went over my head as I don't have a mechanical background (I should of recorded the presentation so I could listen to it again, probably would help it sink in)...I don't feel that you were pushing your product at all, but rather, discussing the benefits of a properly made stroker kit and how it works.

A stroker kit has been something I've been interested in for my S15, so I very much appreciated you taking your time to discuss how it all works and so on.

Also found Andrew's talk highly informative without feeling like someone was asking for my wallet.

My car has a Nitto oil pump fitted as a result of research done into the N1 pump which originally came with the car.

Similar to BakemonoRicer, I found the Nitto talk quite interesting and even though i'd say 60-70% of it went over my head (hey i only learnt the difference between an atmo bov and a plumb back one month ago) it stayed true to the night's "engine build" theme. I didn't even know Andrew was not part of JEM until after his talk, I merely thought he was wearing a Nitto shirt...I attribute this to the fact that I arrived around 730 well into the talk! Thanks very much for your effort and time spent in providing this information.

And as Andrew mentioned those guys went way above and beyond for me over the Christmas break a couple of years back when I had an issue (dodgy workshop, not their products). Their oil pump ate a bolt head and still ran for 000s of klm with only light marks to the pump. In fact the pump was working OK, the engine only died because sufficient oil volume could not get into the pump entry.

My point was, and I believe JEM also made it on the night, that you don't need to spend big (or maybe anything) on engine parts to achieve most goals. There were at least 4 examples given on the night of 400kw+ cars with standard bottom ends and mostly standard heads.

On the other hand, if you want and can afford 800kw atw, go for the Nitto gear and enjoy it.

The Nitto part was great, answered a question i had about the crank etc as i want to stay with a high revving engine when it comes time for a build and was trying to work out what to do, seems like the RB26 crank will make mine 2.6L one day but can retain the high revs etc.... I like it :D

JEM have always been supportive and nothing but the best when it came to my car, i've told the story on here a few times but i was a nobody that walked off the street and spoke to them 2 years before they actually saw my car, during that 2 years they guided me with parts selection and the build along the way, once it was all ready to go i made the call and booked in the car, it was SO good to know that they were willing to assist me and share their wealth of knowledge all the way through and i hadnt spent a cent with them, it shows the passion for the modified cars comes first! Since that first time my car went in they have helped every step of the way, its been a long road but i am SO happy with the quality of work and also the education ive recieved along the way, its good to actually understand what is going on the car :yes:

The comments about the 1600cc injectors was in relation to my car, anyone that went to the SAU Nationals would know my car was missfiring and not running on the track, THIS was actually the Engine Protection in the Haltech that Adam kept mentioning. This engine protection has saved my car on 3 occasions now, 2 were fuel related and one was a blown radiator, the Haltech shut my car down before the temp gauge on the dash began to move.

The car is at 363kw and has done nearly 5000km that way, the setup is good for 400kw but that 3037 is out of puff..... But as Adam said, we have a few things up our sleeves ;)

I really enjoyed Andrews talk. Got some good information and didn't feel there was a sales pitch attached at all.

I'm absolutely convinced that new Members who have joined up prior to our autumn and winter Tech Nights (for Members only) are eager to soak up as much info as they can, and will continue to do so. I learned heaps too. The only thing I would add, if JEM were to invite us back again, would be the distribution of Question Slips. These Qs could then be put into a hat. Thoughts?

Bobby has graciously donated $200 to a charity of my choice after recently selling a desirable item on SAU. I've added a bit to that because Bobby and I believe in what the SAU-JEM association stands for > great education + getting things done right (if possible), the first time!

Appreciate the responses from everyone including Duncan, Luke, Terry and Eric.

Glad some of you guys were able to take something away from what I thought also was a really good and informative night.

My gripe was only with the 2x posts from the one member which I feel was uncalled for and especially from someone that should be leading by example. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but there is a time and a place. I would be stupid to think that this reflected on the rest of the SAU members and would never do so.

This was night was all due to the effort of and representative of the Just Engine Management team and I don’t want to take away from this. It is awesome to see a business taking the time out to educate the public and contribute to the industry. These guys have an incredible repour in both engine tech and tuning capability and it is a pleasure to be associated with them!
