Hey Everyone,

So, i got pulled over for RBT last night and most times i'll be right to go without any troubles but not until last night from all the f....... coppers. They gave me a notice to get my car tested at EPA (Dc something rather) in NSW.

I have a turbo back exhaust with a 3" high flow cat and 2.5 or 3 inch muffler and fitted on my silencer today. The noise in car has dropped dramatically but not too sure if its still too loud to pass the test. Has anyone experienced this and know if the silencer does help with the noise reduction?

Also a tip, should i remove my electronic boost controller in my car to avoid more defects when i get tested? LOL

On my notice, the police only stated excessive noise, so will the EPA only test the exhaust only?

Sorry for so many questions guys, im just curious and see what should i do to prevent spending more money to purchase all my stock parts back and refit them again.

Thanks

Henry

The EPA tester only tests the exhaust, he dosen't care abour mods, as long as the car is under the limit (in vic its 40dB)
So yeh, he places a microphone about half a meter away from the exhaust and accelerates to about 5K(for me at least), that's it. It takes about 5 minutes, it's a shame they charge you $41 for it :(

and read post #14, that's how i passed it :)

Hi Mate,

Thanks for sharing. Yes i have heard about the flange/gasket trick but i have a full turbo back exhaust with a massive muffler, so when i do that trick and have it inspected the EPA is not stupid and think that my exhaust could pass that easily. Thats what im worried about at the moment. Bloody cops man pain in the ass! I've own my car for 5 years and this is my 1st time i've got done for my exhaust =(

90dB in Vic as stated above. EPA may check your emmissions aswell so make sure your cat is up to scratch. They usually hold the revs at the revs that they reckon the car makes peak power at and measure that. I had an RB20 and they held it at 4200rpm. I didnt argue. The car was nice and quiet at those revs and passed no problems.

Haha, no they're not stupid, but its not their business to check how its legal, as long as it is.

to put it into perspective, my gasket(metal plate) was flimsy and when you accelerated above 3K you could hear air escaping like no tomorrow, but the tester didn't say anything!

And i'm sorry, my mistake, the legal limit in vic is 90dB, not too sure why i typed 40 haha
