Smaller Or Larger Turbos

Hey all

Using an rb26 would it be quicker down an 8th mile drags using smaller -9s over the larger -5s?

Over the shorter distance would you get to use the top end of the 5s? Or would the quicker spool of the 9s be quicker?

id be going the 9s.

the 5s wont have as much room to really get going.

Yer thats what im thinking.

Its hard reading threads setting cars up for drags when the one ill be running is half the length.

Depends on how well you can drive and how the car puts it's power down - as soon as you are past 5000rpm in first gear the -5 car should match or out accelerate the -9s equivalent at all points. Cars that are quicker over the full 1/4 are practically always quicker over the 1/8th too - if they aren't, they're doing it wrong and should be able to do much quicker 1/4 mile times if they sort their stuff out.

So yeah, IMHO -5s SHOULD be quicker over the -9s, even on the 1/8th - if it isn't, driver mod or the rest of the car setup needs to be improved. -9s will be easier to drive though, but the potential with the -5s is clearly higher.

becomes a question of if anti lag or launch control is used the -9s will make 22psi boost by 3800

the -5s will make the same by 4500 from memory possibly later

if you drive the car harder the -5s will reward you

but it really depends what you want to do with the car and what kind of fuel you're going to be running

The plan is for E85 set up as its a track only car.
