I'd recommend too, that ribbons only be attached to the cars whilst not moving, lest a faint V mark be left on the bonnets.

Can you guys let this thread have some feedback because we used genuine ribbon (not paper or plastic as the vid says), and we still got the big V shaving mark on the bonnet and even on the A pillar. I don't think we exceeded the speed limit; but we travelled about 20 Kms.

Did you fix the ribbons on the sae way as in the vid Terry?? Also was i light scuffing that can be polished out or is it deeper scratching??

Tight as a violin string Mike.

The V mark was only located at the front of the bonnet where the ribbon sat.

Travelling along, of course you can hear the hum of the ribbon vibrating.

I couldn't see the shaving marks until the pearl black car was back in the garage with lights on.

In daylight, at a certain angle it's quite noticeable too.

Matt's R33 GT-R also had the same marks.

It wasn't bad enough to have to use AutoGlym Paint Renovator.

AutoGlym Resin Polish got most of it out > Menzerna got the remainder out > then a reapplication of sealant > then canauba.

Seems to me the tension near the anchor points is what would cause the marks...what if it was left looser so that the silk isn't as tight against the paint?

Nah, the more tension the less it will move, so less marks. Guy accross the road with his limo service hasn't needed to fix up any marks in the 3 years he's Been doing it.

He says is the loose ones where the wind can move it around.

But loose enough and it won't have any pressure against the paint to rub a mark onto it. I'll give you a length of silk ribbon...you try whipping it against my car for an hour and see how far you get making a mark on the paint. Then try holding it taught between your hands and buff a panel with it like you were buffing shoes...different story!

yeh but the secure points arent moving as if you were buffing a shoe..
