a6491
Hey guys, Just wondering if it's possible to replace the front pipe on a RB26 using car ramps? If so are there any tips, tricks, recommended tools to use etc? I would rather do it myself as I have the time and don't want to pay over $1000 for the local mechanic to fit them as I was quoted. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425044-r33-gtr-turbo-back-exhaust/ Share on other sites
Count Grantleyish
Yes, it's possible to replace front pipes on stands or even just jack the rear end. Just need extended socket to access the bolt on front pipe and some WD40. a6491
haha, was Dyson Auto, they were good when doing my major service though. Others charged me $3,000+ for a major service, he was less than half that! One place to name and shame is Ultratune. Went to get a quote and they said they wouldn't touch my Skyline. wtf! Brandon
As mentioned by others, the key to getting that front pipe out is the extension. Its a piss easy job when you have a hoist and proper tools. Anything more than 2hour labour is too much. To be honest it might be too hard to DIY on the ramp as it can need a fair bit of strength (like breaker bar). Dan from ERD used to be the go to for me but now that Dan's decided to shutdown the business, I've been bringing my car to Hi-Power Racing at Slacks Creek. They just fit my engine & gearbox mount for around 350 too. I got a few quotes and prior but there was one, which is a very reputable workshop, told me it is a day's job. BS... Can you normally judge how well they know the car by the labour hours. I'm sure theres odd cases where freaking bolt is crossed threaded, nut is seized blah blah blah. But these are out of control. 101 is another place which is my other option but I end up at Hi-Power due to getting along with the owner. Let me know if you need a hand with anything, always there to help a fellow Skyliner. Hey guys, Just wondering if it's possible to replace the front pipe on a RB26 using car ramps? Brandon
most places instantly double their rates when they hear the letters GTR or the word SKYLINE Or if they think you dont know anything and wanna rip you off. I was pretty disappointed with the quote (from said reputable workshop) I got for the engine mount since they're the one that tuned my car originally. But yeah I don't have access to a hoist, so car ramps, my mate, and a shit tonne of booze is the way to go. We have the right equipment so that won't be a prob. Living in a small town sucks to get any sort of help for my Skyline, hence the high prices, I did quote around in Mackay for major service and yeah, over 3k.. Unbelievable! I thought I got lucky with the dude at Dyson Auto, easy to get along with, had a knack for skylines too so I really couldn't complain, especially being local.. I just can't justify taking a day off work, driving down to Mackay or Townsville to get work done. Not at this stage anyway! I must say, first forum I've been on where there are minimal to no douche bags on here. Love it! Thanks again guys Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425044-r33-gtr-turbo-back-exhaust/#findComment-6852693 Share on other sites
Brandon
Haha no worries mate. I didnt realise you're that far up north. I used to frequent Emerald (due to being in the coal industry) but has been in the office for a while. SAU is 1 of the few forum you'll find decent tech info and help. I've been on this forum before I own a Skyline and people dont give me shit for asking question. Try searching for any problem you encounter in the forum and theres a high chance someone else before you had it before. Or even posting it and you'll find replies are generally pretty quick and help (sometimes make you think about stuff which you might have missed). All in all, enjoy your stay here. Cheers for the offer mate, greatly appreciated! If you happen to be in Prossy, come on up haha.
