R34gtst Cams Into R33

Are R34 cams able to be fitted into a R33? The specs are alot more tempting. With lift of 8.4mm inlet and 8.7mm exh compared to 7.8mm on the R33. The 34 cams are solid and 33 lash...not sure if that is an issue..

You might be pushing it on the ex side?

Direct tomei drop in cams for the 33 25det is 256 in/ex 8.5mm lift.

What's the duration on stock ER34 cams?

Is it worth going less duration with a higher lift though?

The turbo is the same so I'm guessing the cams is where the 206kw comes from compared to 184kw(R33).

They also used a Variable air velocity system on the 34's which is the 'Neo' gear.

Neo motor also runs higher compression. 9.0:1 from memory.

Thought it was slightly lower, (8.7 - 8.8:1). I think the point is that the power increase from 186kw to 206 isnt just a resulting change from differing cam duration, lift and seperation.

Appart from buying the actual cam, you'll need to convert the R33 head from hydrulic lifters to solids.

In the end it might be easier and more cost effective, (not to mention more power gains) to go with a set of TOMEI cam's.

But if someone is willing to give it a try I'd be interested in seeing the results.

R33 runs 9:1 standard.

So can you fit the variable air velocity system to an R33? I think I saw under the hood of an R33 just the other day with something looking very much like an R34 part just before the throttle body. Is that it .... big stepper motor hanging off one side?

Yeah, a silver drum type thing just near the throtle body. Not sure exactly what it is.
