Urgent Desperate Help!

Hey guys.

Was doing service on the 33 cpl of days ago and came across 4 manifold - engine studs have snapped inside. Have tried my best with easy outs and thread extractors . Rang everywhere for a mobile mechanic, seems like no one wants a bar of it. I have had to miss 2 days of work so far due to no transport. and cannot afford to be off any longer.

Can someone please point me in the direction of some much needed help.

Did you have an exhaust manifold gasket leak?

Have you removed the intake and turbo etc?

Get your hands on a metal drill and a tap & die set and just rethread it. Only a suggestion and what I would try, not that I've done it in your situation though.

It would be hard to get a drill in there let alone have the control to keep it straight enough to do a decent job.

Yep turbo, dump pipe and manifold is removed. The gaskets had cracks and splits in them. I have ordered new ones but can't do nothing till these bolts are removed..... Stressing out hardcore.......

Consider getting a daily to get you to and from work till you sort it out. If you are stressing out now you might end up making things worse - ie drilling through a water jacket etc. I am guessing it will make things a lot easier if you take the head off and get an engine reconditioner to replace the studs.

Sorta can't afford a daily, and no time to pull the head off... Is there no one in Melbourne that specialises in this sort of job...

Post a pic up on the location and where the bolts are. Surely can't be that bad, there's plenty of ways to get them out these days

No mobile thread repair guy? We have a guy in Canberra who does it.

Or

Melbourne has awesome public transport compared to the rest of us.

Have to do it properly and take the head off.

Protip: Offer him a cuppa, might get lucky and he'll drop the price a bit.

Worst case scenario, bolt it all back together and drive it to your local exhaust shop and have them do it. Will cost you a bit more, but it will be done

Yes what Marc said.

If you've been at for this length of time without success chances are you've made a mess of any protruding part of the studs.

So this means a MIG job down into the end of the stud.

A lot easier in a workshop situation, car up on a hoist etc.

Extractor kit + Dry ice or Liq. Nitrogen???

Usually a die grinder to centre the hole, then drill, then extractor. I'm sure he would have other tricks up his sleeve though...
