Hey guys,

Im a frequent user of the aus300zx.com forum. I recently did a big group buy on a stainless steel Grade316 bolt kit for the engine bay of our Nissan 300zx Z32s. I order bolts by the thousands at work so can get great prices, less than half what you would pay buying the bolts from a stainless supplier.

I intend to compile a list of engine bay fastener kits for various cars and eventually sell them on my site.

What I am proposing here is an initial discount group buy for the forum, in return for the help of compiling a fastener list.

On the 300zx forum, the kit contained 150 stainless steel Grade316 (the more expensive marine grade) hex head bolts, screws, lock washers, and nuts of all kinds. The price on the 300zx forum was $65 delivered anywhere in Australia, as linked below:

http://dev.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1348057

I can do the kit for any car, R32, R33, R34 that needs it. Im unsure if theres anything on the market available at the moment, but I couldnt find anything for skylines or the silvias, and my kit was half the price of anything out there for the 300zx.

Would there be any interest in a stainless kit for your car at roughly that $65 price? If yes, what exact model do you have? Would you be willing to help measure a few bolts for me or is there one already available for your car?

Either way, if theres any interest ill be in touch. If theres a list out there that would be great, I could go straight to running a group buy or setting up an eBay sale with a discount code for you guys.

Thanks for any information you guys can give.

Just remember, $65 for an engine bay full of bling is a bargain :)

Attila.

Think there is a site - dressupbolts.com that do a kit for GTR but they are titanium and obviously a bit more.

Im keen on some random stainless bolts though if your interested/able to just supply various size 5, 6 and maybe 8mm bolts and washers. I can get them cheap but in boxes of 100 which means I just end up with alot of the same bolts lol

I think this is a great idea as i purchased a second hand motor supposedly complete but is missing a lot of the bolts i need. A kit like this at the price is a great idea and i would definately purchase one.

I'd be interested in a R34 GTT kit, but how would I know where which bolt would replace which?

i had a quick look at the 300ZX link, in it Attila mentions that he included a cheat sheet on where to find bolts =)

though i'm not entirely sure we'd get one because ... we are basically 'making' our own kit. so i think we'd need something like an engine bay manual !??!?! that would be a headache i reckon....

Heres the kit I made up for our zeds.

Pretty much I need to measure up all the bolts, write down which goes where. Then ill buy a bunch of fasteners and bag them up for you like this clearly labelled as to bolt types. Then Ill also include a piece of paper saying which sized bolts go where on the engine.

Same as the dressupbolts.com kit except just stainless steel, and for like quarter the price.

Only problem is I dont know anyone with a Skyline anymore so cant measure them up. Thats what made my EVO and 300zx kits so easy I could measure them all up myself and had it sorted in a couple hours.

But ive been working on getting the info and with a bit of help from you guys I can get the final bolt types. Then once I have all sizes id like to send one single kit out to someone for a test run to confirm its all spot on. Then i can offer the group buy to you all at this price.

I know that if I make a kit for the R33 GTR, it will also fit the GTT's with a couple bolts left over. Same goes for R34's.

Ideally id like to make up both kits so everyone can get them.

If people can help me get these bolt sizes then I will have the R33 engine bay finalised. But id like to get to whatevers visible on the engine too.

If you guys can help me out by measuring any of these bolts for me that would be great. Theyre the last ones I need for the engine bay, then I can move onto bits on the engine like coilpack bolts etc.

All the bolts will likely be 6, 8 or 10mm. This is measured on the thread of the bolt, the outside diameter. So from the outside of the thread on both sides. Length is the length of the shaft. If you can run out to your car, take off one bolt and measure its length and outside diameter with a ruler (just do it by eye, its either 6 8 or 10), then id be well on the way to getting this kit sorted :)

-fender bolt (theres 4 along each side. Is it 6 or 8mm? and how long?)

- strut tower nut (theres 2 on each, what size is the suspension bolt? 10mm?)

-hood strut bolts (each side has 2 on hood end, one on engine bay end. Theyre all the same. What size and length?)

-radiator support nuts (theres one on each side. 6 or 8mm?)

-hood latch (its 3 bolts the same. Size and length?).

-hood wiper motor. I believe this is in the very corner of your engine bay up the back... passenger side? (Its 3 bolts as well, all the same).

If you guys can help me get these measurements, then I can already offer an engine bay package.

Also if someone is willing to measure the various bolts on the engine that are visible, I will send you out a free kit to test fit. Goes for R33 and R34 owners. Its pretty basic. The threads in our engines are standard. So just length and outer diameter matter. A couple quick ruler measurements and youre set.

Sounds great, id be in with an r33 series2, i had a bolts list somewhere ill see if i can find it

With sizes and lengths? If you can find it that would be awesome. The group buy could be up and running from that moment on :) I'll send a free kit your way if you find it, now theres some incentive ;)

Where abouts are you located mate? You are more than welome to use my car to measure :D

Yeah thats what im thinking too. I went round to measure up and EVO 9 this morning for the guys on evolutionoz.net. Took maybe 45 minutes? Just opened up the group buy on their forum.

Im in Ashfield (inner west) and/or Bondi, Sydney. Nearby?

My engine is out of the car at the moment so I can get most/all of the engine external bolt measurements for you in a weekends time if you want mate :) this is for an RB25DET Neo.

That would be great. I've got most of the engine bay bolts sorted already but havent got anything on the engine itself yet. If 75coupe doesnt find the list, and you were willing to measure them up that'd make lots of people very happy :) Only the top bolts on the engine that matter anyway, rocker covers, throttle covers, various brackets, coilpacks, sensor mounts etc. Took me maybe 20 mins on the EVO today. Most of the bolts turn out to be the same. Just have to remember to check if theres lock washers or not. Id alsosend a free kit your way if you were willing to measure them up, and the previous mentioned list doesnt come through.

  • 4 weeks later...

Here is a list to start with

M8 x 25mm - Flanged Hex Head for hood latch bracket (LBWHX825RBK)

M6 x 16mm - Allen Bolt for Fenders/Fuse Box (LPB616BK)

M6 x 25mm - Allen Bolt for CAS/Windscreen Controller (LCS615BK)

19mm OD Cone Washer for use with above M6 bolts (LWAC6-19BK)

M6 x 15mm - Countersunk Bolt for Headlight Bracket (LPB616BK)

25mm OD Cone Washer for Headlight Bracket (LWAPB625BK)

Ill do some more measuring for other ones as well, if anyone has sugestions for other bolts to be replaced chime in, ill take measurements and counts for any of them, keen for this to happen

Assuming this is what you guys would like, for a 33 GTR, shows all bolt sizes and locations :D

Definately interested as my engine bay just been sprayed and buying all new OEM everything to make it like factory, bolts would be perfect!!

75coupe and shyboi, you guys are champs.

Ill tell you right now, as soon as I can get my hands on a better quality version of that image, I can make the kits for all R33 variants. Pic is very small but i can just make out the details provided are diameter, length, and bolt type (i.e. M6 x 10mm HEX). That is all I need to know to make up the kits.

Could you do us a favour and email me that image in its full size? Then I can get back to you guys in a week or two with the final kit prepared.

Sorry ive been AWOL for a while. Spent my last weekend test fitting the EVO 7/8/9 kit I made up for some happy snaps :) It was spot on. EVO boys will be happy when I start selling them in a few weeks.

This weekend im moving house so wont have much time.

But as soon as ive settled into the new place ill get cracking on this R33 kit. Im glad its a GTR as well since the GTR has a few extra bolts compared to the GTST, So this R33GTR kit will fit all R33 variants :)

Thanks a lot shyboi. Ill PM you with email details so I can grab the picture a bit better quality.

Will keep you guys posted on progress. Method and timeframe will be as below-

- Get hold of that image better quality so numbers are legible.

- Write up the kit and prepare a fastener list and location cheet sheet (ill do it same day I get the picture)

- Ill purchase one test kit and send it to either Shyboi or 75coupe. Depends how long before Shyboi can have everything fitted. If the engines out might take a while? (One week for the prototype order to ship)

-Prototype kit will be sent for the cost of postage. Then ill need the guinea pig to fit all fasteners and confirm everything fits as it should, nothing the wrong size, or too long. Will also need you to take some close-up photos before and after for me. Ill put up my 300zx photos to show what kind I will need. (Whole test fitting and confirmation depends how quick you guys can do it. Lets say a week or two).

-Soon as its confirmed ill start taking orders :) I understand im new to the forum so probably not trusted for a direct group buy, so ill probably do it through eBay at a discount rate for forum members in hte first month or so. I know you can set up a discount code somehow ill work out how that works.

If all flows smoothly these will permanently be up for sale in about a months time.

Then we can get cracking on a R34 version :)

ok guys, almost there. I need your help naming various parts.

Itll be a lot quicker as you guys are familiar with the lot. Various bits are recognisable between any car, others are not. Also on one car you might call it something different.

Please help me fill out the list in my next post below of whats what.

The prototype kit will be ordered tomorrow if all goes well. Ill make up all the instructions and documentation while im waiting for it to arrive :)
