Slow Build Of Hyp-33R

Recommended Posts

Hows it going people. I have been on the forums a while now and thought id finally post up my slow build since im off work for a week and im getting a little bored :)

It all started early 2011. I got off my p's and after buying a work ute i was on the hunt for a skyline. My first preference was a 32 but they proved to be very hard to find a good conditioned one and were a little out of my price range being a first year carpenter. After driving a mates 33 i loved it and decided that was going to be what id get. I looked for a while until a completely stock series 1 come up fairly cheap as it wasnt in the greatest condition being dropped on its guts with small leaks here and there. After getting it checked out and test driving it i picked it up a few days later.

After getting it home i decided id do a few small cosmetic things to improve the look as i was a first year and didnt have a big income. I changed the headlights to HIDs and parkers to LEDs as well as the reverse lights and number plate lights.

After reading on here how to do dash lights and the ac lights i decided id do those also while i was putting in the new head unit.

The car stayed like this for 10 months or so until the men in blue caught up with me and put a nice little sticker in window. As i said before the car was on its guts when i bought it as well as having a low mounted fmic that didnt help my cause. I was heading off to thailand 2 weeks after i got pulled up so the car sat there from early december to early february till i got back and got my act together to get it all fixed up.

I picked up a second hand set of bc coilovers off a fellow member which were like brand new to get the car up to legal height. When the car was at the mechanics getting fixed we looked over the defect paper and it said the fmic just had to be raised and mounted properly so thats what we did instead of going through the headache of buying a smic.

I had to get rid of the side indicators and a clear set came up for cheap on ebay so that was the next small cosmetic thing to change. (How hot are the chromies)

After i got it back on the road i get my act together and prepped the gtr spoiler i bought before i went away to be painted as i really hated the s1 spoilers and needed it gone.

Nothing really happened with the car for a while then about 6 months later i went to car meet at liverpool krispy kremes. It was a good night until i get back to my car and see this.

IMG_0395_zpsb9676905.jpg

Someone had backed straight into my car smashing the front bar, indicators and hit the front mount behind it. I was devastated until i saw a note on my wind screen. A couple of guys saw what had happened leaving a number plate and contact number for them to be a witness for me if i needed them to be. I guess there are some good people still out there.

I go to the police station that night and put in my report. They run the plates and call the owner, mind you it is now 1 in the morning. After getting a big run around with 3 different stories off the owner and an hours wait she says she was driving (even though the witness said it was a male p plater). I was happy to have all the details so i could then get on with the insurance side of things since i only have third party fire n theft,

Lets just say after a week and half of pulling my hair out i finally get her to put in a claim and get the ball rolling on getting her fixed. After i got the pay out off NRMA ($2800) i figured i source the parts my self and do as much as i could to try and limit costs and maybe do an extra few things.

I decided to buy a series 2 front bar with a lip to get it ready for a s2 front end conversion. I bought that off another member along with various other parts. There was a bit of damage on the bar n lip n took my a week of trial and error to fix it up to an acceptable standard to be painted. Then i had to hunt for someone to paint the car. This is what it looked like for a while.

IMG_0417_zps7fd2c3ca.jpg

I finally got a family friend who is a panel beater to take the bumper lip n headlights to paint. He straightened the front end from the hit which only took an hour and while the stuff was getting painted i took the car to my mechanic for the other half of the fix. i got a whole new return flow front mount from just jap for him to mount for me.

IMG_0442_zps65fd424a.jpg

I got all the stuff back from the painter and put it all back together finally. Big transformation with the new front mount and the s2 bumper and clear headlights!!

With the money i saved from doing a lot of stuff myself with the accident and money i had saved up i bought an ebc to turn the boost up a little to get a bit more kick out of the stock set up. I also desperately had to get rid of those chrome wheels.

IMG_0465_zps367e5c1a.jpg

So sexy!!

I replaced them with these.

Next i got the windows tinted because i think it looks pretty good on a black car and didnt do much to it after that.

Me and few mates went to cruise for kids and these are just a few pics they had of the car

After i saw the photos i wanted to put the car a little lower but after considering the drama i have to do to get out of my drive way now (put down scaffolding) i figured it wasnt a good idea.

Thats the clearance without going lower. Damn driveway

Everything was going fine with the car. I liked where i had gotten it aesthetically for now but wanted to save for performance.

2013 runs through thinking it will be a good year. The 6 days into it and this happened

IMG_0795_zps3dfbf1c6.jpg

I swear i have the worst luck with this car. Driving home i get rear ended by a person that can bearly speak english with NO INSURANCE!! I couldnt open the boot or anything, I was so close to lossing my cool considering i only have third party fire and theft and i didnt know how i was going to get my money off this guy. It turned out i have up to $5000 in cover for uninsured drivers and he admitted fault and i got paid out pretty quick. and put it in to get fixed at a place my mate works at.

Before:

After:

IMG_0952_zpsc9435820.jpg

While it was there i decided to put stock skirts on since the ones on the car didnt fit well and were ruined from when the car was stupid low and also did this trying to be a little different

Now everything was going fine with the car. She is looking nice and im saving up for the performance side of things. We have a weeks worth of rain a few months back so obviously i dont clean my car. When i do come to clean it i notice there is a lot more stuff on it then usual (There is a construction site 2 doors down that i get a bit of dirt in the air from). I then realise its not coming off

IMG_1061_zps2f114c45.jpg

IMG_1060_zps56db67d4.jpg

Surely my luck cannot be this bad!! It looked like overspray all over my car. This bad. EVERYWHERE!! I couldnt figure out why until i walk out the back lane and notice that the construction site next door sprayed all 10 of the townhouse car ports!!!! All the overspray ended up settling on my car. I was so pissed off at this stage and go next door to blast the builder to find out i have done work with him before. It was lucky coz he bit the bullet and paid for a full detail that didnt come up cheap at all. After another week and a bit i get the car back looking like this

374480_10151427389089130_1670485195_n_zp

To say im happy with the results would be an understatement. I cant believe it all come out. A massive thank you to george at Georges Prestige Deatiling in Earlwood for sorting the car out and doing an amazing job. The car looks so much better then what it did before all that overspray got on it

I read nytsky's build thread and it was amazing. This wont be anything as crazy as his but it got me so geed to get mine done i worked my ass off to get the money saved up for it.

Now this brings us up to a few weeks ago. After looking for a while for someone to do the engine work on the car i come across SMD workshop who did my mates S15 and a few other peoples cars i know. He specialises in silvias skylines n supras but also plays around with rotors too.I drop the car off to him after talking to him and meeting him a few times. We talked about what would be best to get the power figure i wanted and what extra could be done to make it safer and more reliable for the long run as well. We talked about long term improvements i wanted to do with the car and made sure i wouldnt have to do things twice by setting me up with overkill in things like fuel pump, injectors, ecu etc which would turn out a very good thing for me.

He had the car for a week. He told me he will be tunning it saturday night and i go into watch. He got all the cold start and idle tune done. As he started the run boost through it, it only got to 10 psi and started playing up (it still hit 240kw running bad). He concluded it was running way to low of petrol and the pump wasnt picking it up properly. After a long decussion that night we decided that instead of tuning it and running 98 to go e85 instead since im already set up for it. We pack up n i head off at 11.30.

I pick up the e85 sunday and he messages me to meet him at his shop coz he wants to see this thing on the road. After clearing the lines i only had 2-3 litres left of 98 we drop on the e85 and off we go. After an hour the car just would not stop pinging no matter what he tried to stop it so to be on the safe side we threw in the towel and went home. He promised me it will be ready for me monday since i have work i couldnt be there.

Of course all day at work i was thinking about the car and all i wanted to do was pick it up and hope it was running right. Then i get a msg off him. The CAS was stuffed and was sending bad signals causing the pinging. He change it out and sure enough it run perfect. The end result 22PSI 360kw atws. It was safe to say work couldnt end quick enough for me to get there and get the car. I get there that night and he tells me he turned it down to 20 pound to be safe till i can do my timing belt.

I cannot recomment Zan at SMD workshop enough, He has great communication throughout the process since this was the first time i had done anything like this before and went out of his way coming in on a sunday to try finish it up for me.

IMG_1271_zps8abcdcc3.jpg

A pic of the gauges i had put in to monitor my oil temp pressure and boost

Ill post more pics of the engine when my mate takes a few photos of it for me.

This brings us to now and i will update more when the timing belt and more goodies get put in.

Great thread and great results :)

Any more plans for the near future? Attending any track days?

Ill be taking it back in to do my timing belt soon. It was booked in for monday but i did my ankle pretty bad at basketball so i havnt been working and cant spare the cash right now. Having said that i took the opportunity with the time off the get a guard roller in to lip my rear guards.

Once it get the timing belt done ill turn the boost up to 22psi, Get an eflex sensor put in as a fail safe incase i cant possibly get to e85 then bigger brakes, a few suspension bits n pieces. Might change the wheels but im not sure. Finish the interior and paint. The interior and paint wont be for a while especially since i dunno what colour i want to go with.

Ill be attending a lot more once the timing belt is done. Ill shoot myself if i get greedy n go to a drift day n snap it before i change it. I wanna go to the drags and see what it runs since ive never done it or had a car worth running lol. I really wanted to go to one of those texi things too i see on here now and then to meet ppl and give it a run but i cant play coz i got gate :(

Can we get some engine info and pics please :D

I have a mate taking some pics for me soon. Its not finished yet. Gotta change a few things and paint the cooler pipes, fuel rail and reg black for a more stealthy look incase i get asked to pop the bonnet

Some of the specs are:

- Garrett GT3082r

- 46mm waste gate with screamer

- 1000cc injectors

- Top fed fuel rail

- Aeromotive stealth fuel pump

- Cams valve springs and retainers

- FMIC

- 3 inch blitz exhaust

- EMS ecu

atm its only on 20psi for about 330kw atw. Hopefully end result will be 22psi n 360kw atw

32 GTST's are more expensive than 33's? Bugger me.

Nice combo :)

When i was looking over 2 years ago clean 32s were more expensive then 33s. Plus 25s are a lot easier to get power out of then the 20s so that was a pretty big decision helper

Hey guys just a bit of an update. I went for a drive on the weekend. As i was going up a hill i put my foot down in 4th and the revs rocketed up. Then the lovely smell of clutch. I think its safe to say its given up on life.

I went into SMD to talk about the new round of upgrades and somehow ended up at oil pumps. Now i know the stock one is rated for about 300kw and ive been told by a few ppl the n1 pump isnt much of an upgrade. I cant find much for power ratings and everything said about it is obviously opinion so im hoping to get peoples experiences with them. Also the other pump ive find to be good quality is the jun but as u know it the price tag is a bit of a hit in the pocket so my next question is, is there an inbetween pump that would handle 350 kw power rage.

    • Anyone have any tips on replacing the high pressure PS line on a R32 GTR? Mine started leaking and got a new one but can not for the life of me figure out how to get the old one off. I took the sway bar off and disconnected the steering shaft but can not figure out how to get the end that connects to the rack out. I did not want to cut the old one off cause if I can not get the old one off I am sure I will not be able to get the new one on.
    • The two diagrams are equivalent. The R32 one is just one sheet out of about 3 showing everything in the whole car all at once. And without knowing the functionality that occurs in the modules, they are both equally opaque.
    • 8v - 2.48ms 9v - 2.15ms 10v - 1.74ms 11v - 1.41ms 12v - 1.15ms 13v - 0.99ms 14v - 0.89ms 15v - 0.82ms 16v - 0.81ms I'm running these values on my RB20 Neo with 570cc Denso R35 stock jets and it's great. Also bought a set for my Legnum VR4, love these injectors!
    • Thanks for your reply,  Those blue/green wires running to the actuator aren't attached to anything, so I'm not sure how the central locking is still working. I will have to take a good look tomorrow, I don't have the car with me. After googling it seems like a pretty common aftermarket actuator which even uses the same green/blue wires the immobiliser required. i'll test everything tomorrow and if it's working i'll melt the solder, strip it, resolder and neaten it all up with some heat shrink. I don't have to understand it if it works hahaha I just don't want a fire/ short circuit. That R32 diagram looks more like a continuity chart? Can you make sense of this form the R34 manual? 10V is probably due to very flat battery, i'll recheck as well tomorrow, I did have to jump start it haha. Thanks again!
    • So, COM doesn't mean comms. It means common. What common itself means will depend on the type of device. For a two directional actuator (ie, one that can push and pull on the same output rod) then the common will typically just be the earth connection. There will be at least 2 other wires. If you put 12V on one of the other wires, then the actuator will push. On the other 12V wire, it will pull. Can't quite make out what is going on with the wiring of your actuator. It appears to have several wires at the actuator plug, but there only appears to be 2 wires where its loom approaches the door control module, with at least one of the others cut off. I don't know these actuators off by heart. I'd have to look at a wiring diagram for one before knowing what the wires were about, and that's despite me having to replace one in my car not all that long ago. Just not interesting enough to have dedicated memory set aside for trivia like that any more. That actuator is an aftermarket one, not the original one, which probably died and was replaced. That might require some sort of bodge job on wiring to make it work. Although nothing should justify the bodginess of the bodge job done. As to the soldering job on the door module's loom plug. Ahhahhahaha. Yes, very nasty. Again, I cant tell you what any of those wires do. You'd need to study the R34 wiring diagram (if you can find one that shows the door module). I don't think I have any. I'd have to study the R32 diagram to start to understand what mine is doing, and again, even though I've had a problem with mine for the last 25 years (where it locks the passenger door when the driver's window reaches top or bottom of travel) I'm just not interested enough to try to to work it out. So long as it's not burning down, it's fine with me. Here's the R32 GTR diagram, which, confusingly, has rear door lock actuators and window motors on it!! As you can see, unless you understand the functions of the door lock timer and the power window amplifier, you'll never be able to work out how it works just from the diagram. I don't imagine that the R34 one is any better. Hopefully an R34 aware bod can help. FWIW, the two wires that are cut and joined look like they are both power supply - so hopefully it is not fatal to join them. The 10V you measured on the cut off free end of one of them is concerning. You'd expect 12V, and it might be the reason for the bodge job joining them together.
