FordyR31
I have a small coolant leak I wish to fix before it becomes a major one. The join that slips inside the top radiator hose which the hose clamps to has become rusty and has deteriorated away. It looks to be part of the factory inlet plenum. Just wondering if these are repairable/replacable or if its easiest/cheapest to replace the plenum. Search found me nothing relavent. Thanks Edited May 17, 2013 by FordyR31 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425438-top-radiator-hose-connection-rusted/ Share on other sites
Sinista32
Very common issue. A fellow SAU'er in the ACT had a similar issue recently. He got a pipe of similar size and correct length and jammed it in. Me personally, I'd replace it with a good 2nd hand one. FordyR31
Is it possible to weld to the plenum? Have thought, if you can, about grinding the rusted pipe off and welding a new pipe on to fit the hose to. Dont really fancy jamming a pipe in. Thanks for the reply. StevenCJR31
yes its easy to cut off the rusted section and get a new bit welded on(i had it done to a 20 manifold) needs to have a bead welded on the outside edge of the replacement as per factory any good ally fabricator can do this and for reasonable $$$ dont bother buying another (possiblyrusty) manifold Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425438-top-radiator-hose-connection-rusted/#findComment-6855593 Share on other sites

FordyR31
Apparently this connection is pressed in, on an RB20 at least. I hear once they are this shagged they are easy to take out, buy a new one and tap in with a mallet. Anyone confirm or deny for a S2 25DET? FordyR31
Found this, no one had mentioned it, not sure if many people know about it. I will try to fit it up tomorrow and see how well it works. http://www.uniqueautosports.com.au/Parts-Shop/uas-chrome-molly-upper-radiator-outlet-intake-manifold-76.aspx Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425438-top-radiator-hose-connection-rusted/#findComment-7093315 Share on other sites

FordyR31
It is but cheaper than a forward facing plenum and if u but second hand, only a matter of time before it rusts also Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425438-top-radiator-hose-connection-rusted/#findComment-7093672 Share on other sites
StevenCJR31
Meh. . Not a bad price at all, a secondhand manifolds outlet shouldnt keep corroding as long as decent coolant/soft water is used Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/425438-top-radiator-hose-connection-rusted/#findComment-7093783 Share on other sites
Missileman
If it was me, I would be going to my local fabricator and look for a piece of stainless the wright size and asking him to weld a bead on the end.
