So, I just ordered a rear Cusco 1.5WAY LSD centre for my car today. Got it for a price I couldn't walk away from.

This means I ALMOST have my driveline sorted how I want it to be;

-Evo 8RS 5sp Gearbox (requires overhaul, gearset shot peened, nitrided, replacement 5th gear / 0.825 ratio, replacement final drive - HKS 4.11)
-Front Cusco 1way LSD (requires overhaul and reset)
-Rear Cusco 1.5way LSD (requires removal of AYC spider gears in rear diff housing)

I have everything either here or ordered, except for the 5th gear. The reason for the change is that the standard box comes with a 0.761 5th gear ratio, which creates too much of an RPM drop. So, a replacement 0.825 should be PERFECT.

^ Fine, Fine...

A few quick updates.

BODY

  • Front guards WERE complete. We have decided to modify them. They have been reshaped and are looking AWESOME. Very unique. The front end is currently so wide, that my 18x10.5" +22 rims w/ 15mm spacers are TOO SMALL. I need more offset.
  • 1500mm Type 5 Voltex GT Wing SOLD and is now being replaced with a 1700mm version of the same wing but with 40mm stand extensions.
  • Evo 9 Rear Bar Installed
  • Work on custom rear guards has started
  • Work on custom front bar has started
  • I was going to swap the bonnet for a Voltex unit, but I am undecided. At the moment there is an 8 week wait on the bonnet if I was to swap it out...

ENGINE

  • Engine has been complete and on the stand for a while now.
  • Debating about swapping my FP HTA Black out for a EFR8374.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

  • Currently considering ordering Racefab front and rear chromoly subframes, and chromoly north south bar. If I DO go down this path, it will certainly stiffen up the chassis a lot more, and will drop approx. 30+kg from the car.
  • Currently Talking to Road2Race about chassis and suspension setup.

So, I have been doing some calculations, and playing with the BW Matchbot to see how an EFR8374 with T4 1.05 A/R TS housing would go on my car, and this is what I have come up with. I believe 36psi can be all in around 4,300 - 4,400rpm, possibly earlier.

This particular one is daily and possible 'time-attack' mode but I feel that the intercooler would cop too much heat soak on this boost pressure which would be detrimental to the engine and performance over a lap. This is based on 15psi (1 BAR) @ 4,000 ramping to 36psi (2.5 BAR) from 4,500rpm to 8,000rpm)

And last one. A 'Kill-Mode' for dyno runs or if I want to take to the drags. This is based on 15psi (1 BAR) @ 4,000 ramping to 45psi (3.1 BAR) from 4,500rpm to 6,000rpm, then ramping down to 40psi (2.75 BAR) by 7,000rpm finally ramping down to 36psi (2.5 BAR) at 8,000rpm. The engine is built with the best components, so it has no problem taking that type of boost.
Yes - The matchbot presents a calculated torque of over 850+ nm between 4500 and 6000rpm. On a 2.2ltr 4cyl?!! WHAT!

well done on the initial matchbot setup, i like the boost taper and backpressure looks within on-point. where did you get those VE numbers from? my only comment would be to tweak the compressor efficiencies a little better according to the map plot. Both in the real world, and on matchbot - the extra 10% displacement to 2.2L makes a big difference for evo motors with aggressive spooling turbos. I run an 8374 on my 2.0L and while it is a lot of fun, i wish there was a little more displacement as it would spool even quicker and stay out of surge in the lower rpm. Since you want it to be a street car with ac and dont want to notch the gearbox, i really suggest that you consider EFR7670 1.05 a/r

Hey everyone...

A LOT has changed in the last 7-8 months and the car has taken on more of a track focus rather then street.
I have started a web page (http://akracing.me) and facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/AlexKingRacing) so that it is easier for people to follow the builds progress (easier to post in one place!)

As a summary;

  • Everything to do with A/C and heater has been removed.
  • I have purchased a EFR8374 with a T4 1.05 A/R rear on it.
  • I have just fabricated a 6pt roll cage
  • Installed a Velo Apex Seat (hans compatible)
  • Spare wheel well removed and replaced with alloy flat floor
  • Wiring harness has been stripped down and all redundant wiring gone.
  • Door Cards are gone, and I am currently making some alloy replacements
  • Focus on Aero rather then just wide body..
  • New Front brakes are being made, ready to be bolted on in Jan
  • Fuel system has gone and now going to a surge tank setup (rather then in tank)

Thats about all I can think of!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Xmas!

Some pictures of the car in its first public appearance on the weekend at World Time Attack Challenge, Sydney (Australia). Huge thanks to all who showed up to have a good look at it. Thanks to J_Hui for the beautiful photographs.

Hey All!

J_Hui Design / Photography finally got around to releasing the photos he took of my car at WTAC. I realize there may be some duplicates of what I have already posted, but I am too lazy to filter those out.. haha.*
