Yeah I doubt the FP Green BB even would be hugely lively under 4000rpm, it is still a fairly big turbo in effect - though in hindsight I have in my head FP will now upgrade any Mitsi based core to DBB, so something like a DBB 71HTA might be a nice balance

I don't think the 71 HTA would quite crack 300kw. :(

If they DBB the 71 HTA it would be great as they already have stock spool and flow 20% more than the stock 9 turbo. I woulda thought the green would be on before that?

Mick I'd say the 71HTA will flow 300kw :) The size would be 71mm compressor and 57mm turbine. Your GTX on the 33 was 71mm compressor and 60mm turbine, so its not majorly off!

Given enough wastegate flow I think you will get there and have nonsensical response. It may be worthwhile in modifying the toxicfab mani to accept two 38mm gates :)

I don't know for sure, would have to speculate really and I tend to lean on the edge of conservative.

I'd have picked the 71HTA to be capable of 310-330wwkw on E85, though yeah probably not 300+kw on pump gas.

The 73HTA I'd put as similar to a GT3076R, so 340-360wkw on E85, and the FP Green shouldn't be much different to an HTA GT3076R (370-390kw). That's what I'd be guessing anyway. Strictly speaking probably can't go far wrong with any of them, the 71 would probably be a bit mental haha.

In my opinion the housings and mainly the hot one are what sets the limits with these Evos when looking for more power . FP and a few other mobs do alternative compressor housings but there aren't that many direct fit turbine housings for them . I know someone with a 7 that has the 10.8cm one and reckoned it was a good looking thing internally . Mick you would know that MiVec 9s came with a 10.5 housing and it had the better waste gate system than the earlier twin disc ones like 6s had . The 10.8 looks like a slightly enlarged ported 9 one .

You have a significant advantage with a Mivec engine and I remember Mark at GT Pumps telling me that they feel a bit more like a non VCT stroker motor down low .

A .

I like mental Dan lol :)

Don't we all :D Maybe you should hit up the FP guys, but the way I picture it the 71HTA with DBB core could be a response monster with the ability to make decent power - probably not quite what your Skyline made, but it'd be real world very quick. Realistically, don't be a wuss and just get an FP Green HTA ... you have the cams for it, have some fun :)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to decide on a turbo, but not shore on what to use.

I've got a RB25DET that's going to be built for high hp, that the turbo would be going on. I'm planing on it to be auto & it will be going in a Vn commodore.

I was hoping to get somewhere about the 500kw mark out of it when it's finished. I don't want to run to much boost (22psi). If I need more boost I would rather go a bigger turbo ( just in case I want more power down the track ).

I was thinking on using the HTA SUPER 94 or HTA 3794R. Would it work with the t3 flange for the power I'm after, or would I have to go t4 flange (what sizes do they have, should I use a single or twin scrole housing).

What size pipe should I use for the manifold, because I would have to custom make it for my car (the rail on the car sticks out more & the engine mounts are different to that of a skyline)

Any help would be useful, thanks everyone.

Going up a turbo size also makes for a laggier setup, what is your issue with pushing a smaller turbo harder? A GTX35 could probably get you there.

You are pushing the engine hard, why not max out the turbo for best power available? Wastegates are overrated imo...

What fuel are you going to be using?

Makes a big difference in terms of what you choose. As a rough rule of thumb I guess I could say that you'd need to budget at least 20% more airflow potential for a pump gas turbo versus an E85 turbo hunting for the same power figures as a result of the ways they'd go about it - partly due to the boost limitation due to being much more likely to be knock limited with 98 RON fuel. If you are aiming for 500rwkw on 22psi using pump gas, you are going to need some REAL fancy parts - especially with stock displacement. The thing is going to need to rev, have awesome VE when doing so, be strong etc etc - the only people I know making that kind of power on pump gas are RB26 based with very large cams and turbos etc.

Off the top of my head I'd be leaning for at least a Super94 HTA for that power on pump gas, if not a 4294HTA... haven't put a huge amount of thought into it right now but at least as an educated thumbsuck - you are probably needing a 90+lb/min turbo to achieve that, and one which with a high flowing exhaust side (and exhaust system) to ensure the exhaust manifold pressure is as low as it possibly can be, you're going to need huge cams and to be able to get as much clean air into and out of the cylinders with each gulp. If you REALLY want that much power, I'd seriously consider just planning to run on high octane and find the stuff supplied if it is not at the pump.... your engine is likely to last longer, be more usable and generally easier to make the power with.

Not 100% sure, can try and find out need be - otherwise flick them a message on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FPTurbos?ref=ts&fref=ts

While on that topic, while it doesn't give specifics - here are a couple of interesting clips regarding the Super94 and 99 turbos:

Awesome!

Just because I don't know any background on you etc, and I am a big fan of making sure people know what they are getting into and getting the best out of their setup for what they are hoping for - FP do fantastic turbos for the cost, flow and response... but the Super94 is a BIG turbo in effect, don't let the T3 flange etc and not being a large frame turbo trick you - it will float somewhere between a T04Z and T51R Kai in terms of lag, probably closer to the T04Z but still.

On the flipside, it also is capable of making power up there with a T51R SPL - and given you are targetting in the region of 700whp on not huge boost using pump gas then you need a bunch of compressor, so hopefully you are prepared for the game to not really start getting exciting until around 5000rpm!

    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
    • I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.
    • IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰
    • Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
    • Please noooooooo 😭 As for wrap, no thank you mate, I've seen and used "carbon fibre" wrap before, and for these hard tops, they look soooo good when colour matched Like this >>>
