As some of you know i went through a speed camera and it may or may not have flashed as may or may not have been doing 70kmph over the speed limit.

Stupid thing to do (if i did do it), and everyone does it at some stage, can I encourage people to not do it as its not worth the small little thrill you get out of it... I have a girlfriend which lives 45mins away and i need my car to see her and i have to drive for my job, so really i have too much to lose. Now i feel like and idiot and frankly regret being a dickhead. I dont blame the cops as they are just doing their job in this case.

I didnt get a fine in the mail which i thought was strange but one of the local cops have rang me up and left a message saying that he wants to speak to me reguarding a speed camera incident.

Why didnt i just get a fine in the mail?

>40kmph over the speed limit is $350 and 6 points....

Where do i stand? was the picture blurred and he recognised it? i dont know...what do you guys think....ps. he is ringing me back.

hmmm. Picture blurred but they recognised the car.... it's a long shot.. but maybe...

strange.... in order to recognise it would have to of been a local mandurah copper that saw the photo.... how do they know to send the photo that way? Being that it may/may not have flashed you quite a long way from home :|

Long Long shot.. Yes.

Either way, good luck Fane, I know I'll be needing it too for this particular incident :)

For some reason I always remember reading in the learning books for my licence it stated that 40-45km/h over is a 6 pointer, 45+ is a loss of licence?

Ive also had the coppers at my door for a mutlinova infringement. I completely shat myself because I didnt know I went through one, or at what speed. But it turned out that i hadnt transferred my personalised plates over properly or something stupid.. They had showed up because those plates were illegally on that car, but it all got sorted out and luckily it only turned out to be a 1pointer :)

heh

next time he calls u just deny it.

a friend of mine was once late for work and was doing about 150km/h weaving in and out between cars on the freeway, hes stupid i'm not saying this is acceptable. anyway obviously some road users took his plates and complained, and he had cops knocking on his door the next day and questioned him. he just deny'd it and his parents bullshitted too about his whereabouts at the time i think. cops couldnt do anything but its different when theres photo proof i guess.

another friend of mine was done for 175 in a 70 zone by a multanova and he recieved 6 point fine and $350 or $450 fine in mail im pretty sure.

If that were true ur friend would be in jail. Doing more than 100km over the speed limit is jail time

Perth have it so easy with speeding fines... in melbourne your screwed for even thinking of speeding...

I don't think doing 100km/h over the speed limit will put you in gaol, you would have to go to court and get a huge arse fine/good behavour bond etc... etc.. license would be gone for a fair while... someone go try it and let me know :D

a bit off topic.. but yeah

we have cheap rego too i think as compared to the rest of the country. 430 odd per year for the skyline (r32)

CHEAP personalised plates too. :)

and i think i read somewhere we also have the best road system..

SUCKERS!! :D

I don't condone speeding but I HATE speed cameras on principal. I take EVERY speeding camera fine to court on this principal.

Now, the reason that the police want to see you is most likely to get you to admit that it was you driving at the time. I suspect that they will be wanting to get information to issue you with a Careless or Dangerous Driving charge.

When they knock on your door for a "little chat", in reality it will be far from that. Almost certainly there will be 2 of them and with ABSOLUTE certainty, anything that you say WILL be taken down and used as evidence against you (don't think we are in the USA and have Miranda rights).

OK, when they do manage to catch up with you (and they will), be polite but give as LITTLE information as possible. For example state that you are certain that it was NOT you driving and that you don't know who was. They obviously won't like this answer and threaten you with all sorts of things (eg. "tell us the truth or we will prosecute you for obstruction" etc). Don't worry, but just don't get drawn into long conversations. I normally just apologise that that I cannot talk further and that I have nothing further to say on the matter. This is the hardest part because they are trained to interrogate and "bully" you into giving incriminating information. The Police Prosecution section much prefer to go to court with incriminating statements, usually obtained during this first "little chat".

Now, when you do get the official infringement, go and have a look at the photo and see how recognisable you are in the photo. If you are not recognisable, then you have a better than even chance of getting off in court (I have won 2, lost 2). We can cross that bridge when we come to it. If it's obviously your mug, then your best bet is to plead guilty with mitigating circumstances as to why it was not "Dangerous" or "Careless" driving, but merely speeding on a clear, empty road (insert explainations here).

Feel free to PM me on my past experiences.

Good luck

Gav

licensing goes on tare weight of the car ...... so yeah you light as a feather R32's are cheap ..... but to license a whale is a bit of a different story :)

But our stamp duty is a lot higher than other states - ive even sent cars over to queensland to get licensed before because its cheaper in stamp duty and then they dont have to pay anymore when it gets licensed here ...... you'd think shipping etc would cancel out what you wouldve saved but anyway :D i have seen it done!

wouldnt i have still got a fine in the mail? isnt that bit all automated?

If it is ONLY a fine, it would be automated. My guess is that they are going for something more serious that will result in a summons, as I said. Probably Dangerous Driving. In court, they can also ask the judge for MORE than the minimum penalty, eg suspension of licence.

Or do like bart simpson and tape a fake nose and eyes to your ass, and then greet them at the door with your ass, then they will recognise u as 1 of them :D

All u need to do is deny everything and just NO, and other short answers, this will will piss them off, but *** them they cant do anything then.

    • So where is this message group so we can organise another meet? Keen to come along and catchup. Might eventually be in a skyline again next year, but the Mustang will have to do for now. Also need to get the WRX back on the road. Stupid f**king money pit that thing is.
    • Stock equivalent turbo replacement is a bit of a nightmare. The old Hitachi ceramic things were pretty good for their time, but they have primitive, vintage aerodynamics. The only thing they have going for them is a light turbine**, and there are plenty of other light turbine options these days, in both materials and CNC manufacturing methods. So, the old stocker makes absolutely no power at all compared to its physical size and its (not very low) boost threshold and response. ** and the ONLY thing that was good about the ceramic turbine was that it was light. In all other respects it is a nightmare. To get a turbo that is anywhere near equivalent in terms of power capacity (ie, to avoid it being "bigger" and needing tuning/fuelling/etc) you have to physically downsize. And that is not a "stockish" replacement. Doesn't just fit where the old one did. At least a frame size down, probably need a new dump, probably need new inlet and outlet piping made on the compressor side, new hose connections as D said above. I say, if you have to suffer that much work, you might as well do the same work to fit an even bigger (than stock) turbo, have more power (and hence have to do injectors, ECU, etc), and love life, instead of suffering with stock power levels. Or, you get a light highflow from someone like Hypergear. A highflow that has not been pushed too far from stock. There are still modification consequences here though. HG's cores are smaller than the massive Hitachi core, so it is shorter, moves the compressor housing backwards and requires mods to the air side piping. Plus new hoses. Looks stock, mostly fits where the stock one did (with the previous caveats mentioned), makes a bit more power but can be run at stock boost levels and not cause too many ECU problems. But, seriously. It's 2024. Like - 25 years since the R33 came out. It's time to put an ECU in it. I Nistuned my car (on RB20 ECU then later again on the Neo ECU) and it was the single best thing possible for minimal money. Dial out the R&R bullshit, fix up the fuelling and timing to make it more efficient for normal driving (cut fuel consumption by >10%). Nistune is not an option for you unless you change the ECU, so you might as well just do a standalone. it will be worth it. And then you can tune it up to the limits of the injectors and AFM, which is pushing 200rwkW and enjoy some actual squirt, instead of the lazy barge-like motion you get from a stock engine, turbo and management.
