So after some positive encouragement from John and levinboy and dean, went back and cut out the doors, didn't do much but its something, just under 1kg for both doors combined. I weighed the doors again and they actually weigh 6kg not 8kg as I posted earlier, scales still didn't move from 6kg after cutting em out.

Started on the front bar, needed to block off 3 of the wholes that weren't being used. Had some left over carbon sheet that was cut up and riveted on. Also dean modified these crap canards I bought online, they fit a standard bar fine but needed to be cut to fit, and the 75mm following the coachwork rule didn't allow us to make the most of them so we cut em shorter. They will do for now, positioned them up from our wool tuft test. It all doesn't look the best but as long as it works I don't care what it looks like anymore. Really hope all this gives us some more front downforce as its easy to get rear downforce but limited from the front.

Like the carbon plates over the unused openings in the bar, might have to make some up myself, build is looking really good mate. Car looks great too, hard to go past a gun metal Datsun with aero!!

Thanks buddy, if you do it yourself careful with drilling as it can split the carbon, and use a heat gun to shape the corners.

Looks the goods!

I've gota find some time to start a thread. But I've done the same to my front bar as well, though we filled em with expander foam.

Start that thread, I'm sure all want to read how you have progressed.

Thought about using the foam but decided not too as eventually ill be running a full floor and may need those 2 bottom holes for brake duct venting. And the carbon has blocked off the holes pretty well for now. There's another alternative which costs around 300 to have someone block off and design the bar to look smooth like it was designed like that from the beginning, but then you have to paint it. I will eventually do it right down the track when funds are available.

Yeh, I'm yet too see how it turned out. I left it on the weekend drying. If it's come out ok, I'll get it painted up.

0.5mm black PU plastic is the alternative just like you have done.

Awesome build keep us informed... Btw what turbos where you using when you did the highest kw output on e85?

Cheers, 2860-10's. or they were 2860-5's, I keep getting them confused but its the ones that make big power up top and the others top out around 420-440kw.

The oil tank arrived today, we were originally having one made up by Leigh our fabricator but unfortunately he is flat out so had to find one in stock ASAP as Bc are working flat out on it next weekend. So this is what was available in 24 hours delivery, looked at the aviaid but not sure if it would make it in time. The fabricated one from Leigh was going to fit behind the left wheel against the firewall engine bay were the abs used to be, this 6x19.5inch will now fit in front of the left wheel.

Brett and dean started working on the car again today, had some hold up issues with parts arriving, but I guess that's expected sometimes. They replaced all the bearings even though they are ok, best to do for reliability and its easier to do now whilst everything is out.

    • Update: I got the magnet out. I bought 3 different flexible magnetic reach tools, but none of them worked. The magnet on the tip was all less than 2lbs of force, so i had to buy a special cylindrical magnet that had a pull force of 9lbs.  The magnet finally came in the mail yesterday, so i got under the car to get to work. The super strong magnet isn't that long, so i only have about 1 finger pinch lengths to hold it. I was so scared when i was going in the hole, that the 9lb magnet would just fly away inside the oil pan never to be seen again, but i had my butt cheeks clenched and finger gripped on that thing so tight, i managed to get it to suck the other magnet out.  It was a victory for me last night.
    • Yep, pretty much what you said is a good summary. The aftermarket thing just attached to the rim, then has two lines out to valve stems, one to inner wheel, one to outer wheel. Some of the systems even start to air up as you head towards highway speed. IE, you're in the logging tracks, then as speeds increase it knows you're on tarmac and airs up so the driver doesn't even have to remember. I bet the ones that need driver intervention to air up end up seeing a lot more tyre wear from "forest pressures" in use on the highway!
    • Yes, but you need to do these type certifications for tuning parts. That is the absurd part here. Meaning tuning parts are very costly (generally speaking) as well as the technical test documentation for say a turbo swap with more power. It just makes modifying everything crazy expensive and complicated. That bracket has been lost in translation many years ago I assume, it was not there.
    • Hahaha, yeah.... not what you'd call a tamper-proof design.... but yes, with the truck setup, the lines are always connected, but typically they sit just inside the plane of the rear metal mudguards, so if you clear the guards you clear the lines as well. Not rogue 4WD tracks with tree branches and bushes everywhere, ready to hook-up an air hose. You can do it externally like a mod, but dedicated setups air-pressurize the undriven hubs, and on driven axles you can do the same thing, or pressurize the axles (lots of designs out there for this idea)... https://www.trtaustralia.com.au/traction-air-cti-system/  for example.... ..the trouble I've got here... wrt the bimmer ad... is the last bit...they don't want to show it spinning, do they.... give all the illusion that things are moving...but no...and what the hell tyre profile is that?...25??? ...far kernel, rims would be dead inside 10klms on most roads around here.... 😃
    • You're just describing how type certification works. Personally I would be shocked to discover that catalytic converter is not in the stock mounting position. Is there a bracket on the transfer case holding the catalytic converter and front pipe together? If so, it should be in stock position.
