Tailgate Struts

So Ive turned my attention to my weak tailgate struts which are now struggling in the cold of winter.

From what I can research, there are no easy replacements. Unless you can get genuine ones which are no doubt pricey.

No matter though, I am looking to fabricate something myself. My question is though what would a good force rating for the struts? Otherwise to measure it, should I try rigging up a winch in the garage and seeing how much weight pulls up the unassisted tailgate?

there is a guy in Leo Street in Fawkner in Melbournes Northern suburbs.

he does tailgate struts, and can put them to what ever strength you want.

i have replaced the bonnet struts, i think it was 80 bux for both.

i also had him do my tailgate struts in the back of my bluebird wagon, had to lift around 65- 70 kg with all the sound deadening and mdf on it.

Im in Canberra. Hmm, the struts Im looking at are 25kg each. Looks like Ill have to just measure the tailgate.

Just get a mobile strut re-gas contractor out to recharge them?

It costs $80 and takes 20 mins. Save your time & effort for something useful.

+1 worked fine for me. replacement not necessary unless they are physically rooted
