Hi y'all, my name is Dennis, I'm from Holland (Europe), and and I've recently decided to part out my sr20 200sx s13 and bought a spec 2 r33 gtst!

Bought it as good stock though been experiencing some stuff that aren't familiar to me.

The engine has about 64k km and looks bone stock, apart from the air filter.

Issues I've been having are rough start. Well not rough, but it needs a couple of turns of the starter to kick in. Used to be a few seconds, but today with a warm engine in actually took a little longer and at once didn't want to start at all. Started the second time I tried and after getting home I turned it off and the car started again like it did before, couple of turns and running.

Also, when cold it sometimes hunts a bit. This stops as soon as the revs rise (either by blipping the throttle or anything else that makes the rpm rise). Is that normal?

Funny thing is that it runs perfect apart from that hunting.

Ow and is it supposed to idle at around 6 to 700rpm?

I haven't got to fitting my wideband a/f gauge yet, so don't know exactly how it's running, but I still felt like asking you experts for advice.. ;)

Taking a couple of turns to start could be your starter motor or your battery, have you checked those?

As for idling issues, when was the last time you serviced the car? It could be little things like spark plugs, dirty AFM etc.

I think idle is meant to be at 850-900 rpm?

with those symptoms id also start with a thorough check of vacuum leaks. Hunting and poor starting also occurs with vacuum leaks and they are pretty common on these 15+yr old cars now.

Good rule of thumb is to get around the motor and replace all vacuum hoses with new lines.

I've only had it for a week now, so haven't gotten to giving it a full service. Going to change the oil/filter/plugs next week.
What I would've expected with a vacuum leak is over-all issues, not just minor at cold and none when at temperature. Pulls like a beast, runs smooth..
I'm going to try getting the A/F gauge on tomorow, because I suspect the engine is running a bit rich.
Next week I'm planning to clean up the throttlebody, IACV, cold start solenoid, see how that works out..

Cleaned the IACV yesterday and upped the rpm a bit. Runs a lot smoother now. Starting didn't improve much. Also pulled out one of the plugs (damn PITA to get the cover off!) and noticed they've put NGK heatrange 6's in.. As I expected they where looking like I'm running a bit rich. Might change these for 7's.
Do stock RB's always run a little rich?
