An Actual Double Din Conversion For V36

Recommended Posts

Was looking for the VSS on the driver's side and came across this install in Japan.

So it looks like it is practically possible to install a double din unit into one of these.

Doesn't appear to be for the faint hearted but it is possible. Maybe there is little more than disconnecting the PCBs and extending the ribbon cables - or would that be too simple?

I can only begin to imagine what he would've done to the factory head unit to make it all work. There's a reasonable amount of real estate behind those dashes so it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being the PCBs and hard drive being scattered around within that dash with the wires extended accordingly. The guy definitely gets my respect.

Given the Viper logos I'm seeing in some of those photos for that shop, maybe I should ask them what they've done to get the remote start to work properly on their vehicles in so far as the keeping the car running when hopping into the remote started vehicle with the Nissan keyfob. My Viper with the XpressKit DBall just refuses to play ball and I have to start it again when I hop in. Then of course there's the door locks which can't be actuated from those alleged two pins on the BCM so I have to go wire-to-wire using a few relays on a PCB I've designed and had etched for me.

Put it this way there is EASILY 48 -50 hours of labor in relocating that unit elsewhere and that is before you take into account the custom work required to move the AC controls to a suitable position where you can access them.

As for sorting out external video into the system , yes that is doable.

Give me / Alan a call over the next few days . I will be talking to him about this job in the morning.
