Well that sounds wrong, if you weren't on boost and loading the car up it shouldn't matter. Baby the car and you can drive it on 91 octane easily. I've never seen a car so aggressively tuned on the low load part of the map that it detonates on 91 octane.

I was babying the car and detonation levels were all fine... but then I got a bit over confident with it running OK and semi accidentally gave it a bit... Also the tune at the time was never 100%.

Depends on alot of things. Boost level, cam duration plus the amount of overlap you're going to run... Blah blah.
