Thats my question ... is it cheaper the club sprints and circuit work . I have to believe car maintenance is a lot higher with drift

- In my opinion after having done cuircuit work and drift at an amatuer level. I would haver to say drift as it puts less strain on your car due to the fact u are only going through 2-3 corners at the most at high speeds (or on the rev limiter) whilst in cuircuit your hammering your car at all coners and on the straights.

- Both use brakes work but the brake work on a drift is much less (more towards the rear hand brakes). Whilst in the cuircuit u stopping from from 200k plus down to say 70 km/h and this is on every turn and straight. This puts tremendous work on your rotors and brake pads. The last time i went to curcuit had to get new rotors after using heavy duty brakes pads whihc will always fcuk em over esp as you brake hard into corners.

- Both will need to to use oil cooler and FMIC more so in cuircuit otherwise we all know things start blowing up when the temp goes up.

- Tyre wear ive found is also a big factot in both. In drift u can get cheap ass 2nd hand stockies (in my case s13) for like 100 bux a set and rip the fcuk out of em. In cuircuit u cant run on the stockies and will be using the wider much more specialzsed wheels rims etc. As you all know the bigger the tyre and the better the grip the more $$$ there is. I paid 250 bux each for mine and after one track day didnt have much left i would say around 60% left.

Although i enjoy bioth and do both. In my OP i would say drifting is cheaper than cuircuit racing (not by much mind u).

drifting kills expensive tyres anyway, although na xr6 in the wet is quite fun. :P

also - I have seen with a mate, a Nissan Urvan with drift tengoku and nismo sticker on it......................must be a drifter :mad:

I have seen a late 70's Toyota Landcruiser FJ45 trayback 4X4 with "URAS" , "TRD", and "drift tengoku" etc stickers on it.. lol

im probably wrong, but it seems that the more mainstream mags like speed have only recently started hyping up drift since the round in the US.

i agree when people say its a pity that drift is the new rice. cause now "everyone" wants to be a full sick drifter. Sheep!

I haven't read the whole thread, as there's too much and drifting just bores the shit outta me.

But I used to buy various popular car mags very regularly, now I don't as there's just too much in there about drifting. It's just so boring seeing every page having some idiot trying to get his car sideways.

it's the american way, franchise it to death, they would sell action figures of their mums if people bought them, nothing against americans just not a big fan of it all.

i think the main problem people have with drifting on the street is that they try to do what they see in the vids, but they aren't capable of doing, its not so bad if u know what ur doing and stay within ur's and the cars limits.

Its funny that some seem to dislike drift because its becoming so mainstream, i would have thought higher participation would have been good . The again dribbling sh1t isnnt really participation.

Anyway Drift is just a title its nothing all that new, ppl have been throwing cars sideways for decades...its just that history tells us that these ppl grow out of it as in order to make a living they need to go quicker...and sideways aint quick. Drifting has been smart in finding ways to reward ppl for going sideways.

The one thing i laugh about with drift is ppl spending money on a car so it has less grip then std? Why sped $3000 on coilovers to have less grip.

What shits me even more is that the same people touting drifting as the best thing ever to happen to imports know s-f-a about it. I've laughed too many times at some kid goin "I wanna take my car drifting, its fully set up it even does 12's on the track".

Whilst there will ALWAYS be the many people (young and old) that will spout shit about being mad drifters and bag the people out there having a go whilst they have never particpated in a track day.

I have been on the end of a few comments.........simply because my car was previously used as a drifter in Japan, and has had many dollars spent on making perform and look that way. HOWEVER that does NOT mean I can drift!!!! These people keep saying "has the looks but does not "go as hard" as i would have expected" C'mon people.........I have been on the track TWICE!!!! give me a break.

I would like these people to spend the money to get out on the track so they can realise how difficult it really is. I personally believ this is part of the problem........They think it is EASY!!!

I will also add.........I NEVER drift my car on the street, for the main part due to the massive cost if i were to hit something.

I think it's entirely ghey how heaps of Aussies knew about drift from the mid-90's (where I lived anyway) and yet it doesn't get popular in Oz until some freakin' yanks hype it up...

Yeah, I think it sucks heeeps of cok, it's not just the seppos, it's cheapobarn and HPI Mag, (new mag Drift Battle) Yeeeeehhaaawww!!!!

Tell ya what else I hate 'bout these spastic kids, is the ones driving around in riced up lancers, excels, lasers etc... that stick import decals all over em, get a sports exhaust and think they drive high performance import!!!!!

There'll always be sheep in anything - that was the point of my post. Thing is just I know a lot of people will look at me as one of them because I'm just getting into drift.

It's not my fault I've only just been able to afford another car isit... it's funny also how the hype everyones been talking about I've been tuned out of.. I've only heard drift is taking off after reading this whole post.

In the end - DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE hahah

If you took the arguments that some have put in, then why arent you guys complaining about drag racing... ie: Making a car only go in a straight line OH NO WASTE OF MONEY, THEY HAVE COILOVERS IN DRAGCARS WHY NOT JUST STRAP THEM ON TRAINLINES OMG OH NO DRIFT WILL DESTROY TEH WORLD!!!!11one!1

Theres a market and people have to make a living out of it.

Get over it, enjoy it, theres more important sh1t like chicks with huge BOOBS to worry about.

either way, DRIFT is a lot of FUN.

i dont understand why people bag out amatuer drifters when they hit the track etc.

of course they'll spin here and there, even D1 drifters do. I'm a regular and probably spun ~1000 times.

but once you link up a big section of track at high speed sideways its very satisfying.

of course it isn't for every1.

    • I'd just like to restate that I don't think anyone here is actually hating I recently sold a car part to a guy who was building a forged auto R34, with MV stall and aiming at ~450kw. I told him that I'm him, from the future and to stop after it explodes once. I told him I knew he won't listen the first time, and that's fine. But if my predictions do come true - Change direction faster than I did. I also said it's probably no coincidence that the dyno plot of a reliable turbo engine starts to look a lot like a N/A motor. :p
    • Got just the wing painted and fitted up to the existing boot. Big visual change and about time after having a GTR wing sitting in the shed since 2018 Headed up to Mallala with a quick obligatory stop in at Boliver OTR Oil control mods seems to have worked. I checked the catch can after session 1 and there was a dribble of water/e85 with barely any oil in it. After session 2 and 3 there was almost nothing and I stopped checking after that. so either great success or catastrophic failure/block of the external breather The GTR wing made a noticeable difference in the 160-185km/h sweepers. It was a very hot day for the cars at over 33C but the previously done cooling upgrade/ducting/water sprayers meant I never saw over 60C intake, 105C water and 100C oil and temps would drop back down very quickly once I shut it down. AD09's are a decent tyre but certainly and expectedly a step down when compared the the CR-S/AR-1 I have had on the car for years of track days. The handling characteristics of my car which I often describe using the Tony Hawks Pro Skater balance mechanic where either side of the center is understeer/oversteer was much more pronounced with no "green/safe" zone in the middle. However, imo it steers well/easily during oversteer largely thanks to the custom ACOSTAL front end. Enjoy a loose lap POV with my mate giggling away as a passenger.   Group photo for Peer Pressure Racing made it back home and gave it a wash Overall a great success compared to my previous two track days where i cooked the Starlets motor and blew up the new diff in the R32

    • Ayooo, been a while mates. I have a s2 r33 gtst and air stopped coming out of all the top vents.   My car has always made an actuator gear noise when turning the car on but that's a different issue I think? Did searches and am at process of thinking it's an actuator or some type of motor? I see a few different actuators and don't know which one. Would be nice to know if it was the one that's under the steering wheel so the dash doesn't need to come out.
    • Hi, just checking. Did you get this stuff made by Vspec Performance and at what price roughly? Looking into (sometime later) also getting such a intake kit, and Trust as well as HKS don't make a full set like this anymore.
