Embarrassing as it is to admit, after nearly 2 years of ownership, I have only just found an fairly significant issue with one of my rear rotors. It is too small..

I had the right rear wheel off, and thought I would check the brakes while I was there, and found the 2 rear pads overhang the edge of the rotor by about 3-4mm. Thinking there was something out of place, I thoroughly checked everything and couldn't see what was wrong. Until I compared with the other side.

I didn't actually remove the rotors to confirm, but there is about 10mm difference in the rotor diameter between the left and right side. And the rotor shield is also a different size. The callipers and pads are the same.

The right side (too small) is approximately 290mm and the left side is approx. 300mm. Although these are rough figures, I can confirm the distance between the edge of the hub and the edge of the rotor is 55mm on the right rotor, and 60mm on the left. A rough measurement of the hub section is 180mm diameter.

I have searched the forums and could only find one size for the non-brembo rear rotors, 292mm, so I don't know where this smaller rotor has come from.

I am guessing I will just need to buy a new rotor and shield, but I don't want to order one, only to find it is the same small size.

Can anyone shed any light on this? other than the diameter, the rotor looks exactly the same.

Thanks.

I have done some further research and couldn't find any different rotor sizes on the G/V35, but did find the 06+ 350Z does have larger diameter rotors, so I'm not sure if Nissan used these on the V35 at some point?

I will remove the wheels and rotors on the weekend and get some real measurements rather than estimating.

Here are some pictures for reference, in case anyone has any suggestions.

Right side (too small)

Well, I removed the rear rotors to measure.

the right rotor (the one too small) has a diameter of 292mm, and one on the left (correct size), is 308mm.

I looked up the DBA page and it seems the 05+ 350z (non brembo) runs 308mm rear rotors, and the pre05 model uses 292mm.

I also checked the front rotor size as they are also different between the 2 year ranges of 350z and found mine are 320mm, which the DBA page also lists for a 05+ 350z, the pre05 models have a 296mm fronts.

Also, by looking at 'private's' post, it seems the S1 V35 have single piston front callipers, but mine has twin.

for some reason, I couldn't find any reference to the V35 having these larger brakes. every page I looked at showed the smaller size rotors for 02-06 skylines.

Indeed! The weird part is the rotor shield was also the smaller size. I am guessing the hub may have been damaged a some point and a mechanic has just removed the whole hub, rotor shield and rotor from a donar S1, and bolted it on, but kept the original callipers.

So I had to replace the shield and rotor to get everything back to normal.

What also concerned me is if you look up almost any catalogue for the V35, it lists the smaller rotors for the entire model run (01-06). You need to look up the 05+ 350Z to get the correct rotors for the S2 and S3.
