So who here has there spare tyre still in there car?

I'm thinking of getting rid of mine and having a repair kit instead, plus it will give me a bit more room when I do the stereo:)

Well i removed my tyre about 2 weeks ago for the same reason (the stereo one), but im up shit creek if i have a flat, lol.

I usually have mine and the jack etc out of the car

if youve ever driven with a space saver u will know they are fu*king useless,

Hence why i have RACQ membership

Plus u cant use the spare on the back, your supposed to have the spare on the front only as it wears out the LSD or something

So if u get a flat on the back, u swap a wheel from the front, and put the spare on the front

i've got a spare but took the jack out because it kept rattling inside the bracket whice renders it pretty useless. the given spanner socket wasn't the correct size for the wheel nuts anyway. hehe be funny having one 265 and one 235 on the rear...i might as well take it out come to think of it.

Mine never leaves the car, even for track days (can't be bothered taking it out). And it has saved me twice so there is no way mine is coming out of the car.

i've only got my 4stud spacesaver in the back (car now has 5 studs) but thats only because i was sick of my amp dropping down when i took it out (im not big into stereos, just have it screwed on the cover thing in the boot)

I Still have mine...but I’ve seen these puncture kits that you connect up to your tire and this liquid is extracted that fixes a leak/hole if you get a puncture and you can pump up the tire and it will hold it for some time until you have time to repair it the can weights like 500grams as compared to a spare tire. I might keep the spare for now...it does help with traction at the rear I guess.

Also with my aftermarket rims they are nice and wide and also abit bigger than stock ones which would make it a bitch to drive the car with a spare being used if i do get a puncture.

Mine has never really left the boot!

Still havent worked out whether its better to leave in for a bit of extra weight over the rear tyres for traction OR if the weight loss of it being out is better :confused:

Spares still in the car, Jacks not, it died about a year ago and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. How slacks that.

Putting two different wheels and/or tyres on the back can ruin your diff. Normally, in a straight line, the diff isn't doing any real work because both axles are turning at the same speed. Change one wheel size, and all of a sudden, the axles turn at differing speeds, and the diff has to compensate.

Putting them on the 'turning' end isn't as bad as you might think - I know that I certainly would be driving a damn sight more sedately with a space saver on the car, and I'd be going to the nearest tyre place I could find, regardless of which corner the spare was on. They're only rated for 80km/h anyway.

hey rob be carefull with the tyre stuff , some tyre shops if they see that your tyre has that shit in it they will not tuch your wheels no matter what, the stuff is poison

I have done it, the guys took the tyre off & saw it had the stuff in it & asked me to take it some were else I asked why & he told me that it was poison
