so i just bought an r34 hi flowed turbo for my 98 40th anniversary edition r33 gtst, i have 3 inch exaust all the way thru and turbo timer, thats it, stock as ma socks, oh and its automatic lol, what can i expect? been told i dont need any upgrades other then boost controller to pump it up to 18psi and i can get 260kw at the wheels?? does it really need new ecu and injectors or can the stock ones handle it? am i likely to run into problems cos several sources say they r running 20 to 22psi with everything stock with no dramas at all but im sceptical, im also led to believe that the skyline motors were all detuned so they could be sold here in australia, is this true? what is the real stock power of a japanese rb25 that hasnt been detuned for our roads? does this mean all the stock gear such as cooler and auto gearbox can handle a potential 400 horses with just a tune to get the engine back to its true stock form?? incase u cant tell, i am a bit of a skyline noob :) also does the fact that its an auto take anything away from performance other than the fact that i have less control of gear changes in the rev range, one mate thinks it will be quicker and better to drift but once again, im sceptical . . . should i be thinking manual conversion?

You will need a new ecu (or a nistune). The stock ecu will not handle much above 200kw before it starts to kill the fun.

Injectors will probably be very close to maxing out, if not maxed out.

And you'll need a front mount intercooler.

And the rb25 wasn't detuned for our roads. They get imported and are just the way they were when they were being driven on the roads in Japan (other than being put back to stock for compliance)

Oh my... Many questions. Most, if not all answers will be found within SAU with a good Search Session.

Do your research and Don't listen to whoever told you only need a Boost Controller.

To answer a small % of your queries... Stock ECU will NOT allow boost that high and No you will NOT get to 260rwkw without more upgrades.

upgrades being afm injectors and ecu?

plus Fuel pump etc, Intercooler if you still have the stocker and so on...

Still sounds like a bit of a bargain at that price as long as it is ok but yeah, you may have bought into a bit of a project if you want a reliable, powerful, manual car.

AFAIK the Detuning you speak of is likely just the fact that our fuel is lower octane than in Japan.

yeah was def a bargain just had slight rear end damage, not scared to spend some coin on it i know i will make my money back.
not to fussed on getting big power, or even converting it to manual, i suppose my only question should have been "what can i expect from my ride simply by changing stock r33 turbo to a high flowed r34 turbo?"

Peace of mind that the turbo is newer and stronger than stock, perhaps a little more spooling time (lag because the turbo internals are heavier) and maybe a little more power from less boost.

I will eventually head down this track if my stock turbo dies but for now I just have a 10psi R32 actuator and a more free flowing sidemount intercooler, 3" exhaust and new fuel pump.

sell me your hiflow.

it went soooo good after i put the hi flow on, now, 2 days later, it made a weird wizzing gridy noise a few times in second gear as it was coming on boost then went from 100% power to about 75% still with boost now its at about 50% and no boost, but not making the same constant noise it made last time i blew turbo, im so confused, how can i blow 3 turbos in a week, wtf mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1000 bucks down the drain, oil line cleared, checked flow all good, new 10w 60 oil, i just dont get it, dont have boost controller so have no idea how much boost im running but hi flow can handle 18+ psi so cant be 2 much boost, wtf, no leaks no smoke no nothing still has a great note to it but u put your foot down and it just creeps up to speed with no boost, i love this car but far out it really annoying me, how can it go so good everytime i put a new turbo on then gradually it just starts to die in the arse???

What kind of intake do you have? The Stock Flexy Rubber Hose? or a metal one?

If it's the stocker, it could be sucking shut with Higher PSI... Sure your Cat isn't blocked?

No idea of boost levels? What's the gauge say? and this is with stock ECU?

Sure you don't have ANY boost leaks at all?

My turn for the many questions... :)

sorry mate was just out in the garage messing with it, i wish i wasnt such a noob when it comes to all this haha, yeah its the stock rubber intake, just noticed a split in the small rubber pipe which i think is a vaccuum hose on top of the engine? dont have a boost gauge and the stock gauge on the dash just constantly says zero it doesnt move, and yes stock ecu i think, i really need to just take it to someone who knows skylines back to front and can give it the whole once over so i know what im dealing with, didnt get any info when i bought it only mods i was only able to work out were that it was lowered and it had 3 inch exaust and turbo timer, if there are any more mods, i dont know about them lol

Split hose - not so good.

Stock intake and high boost - not so good

High boost and stock ECU - not so good

Try to fix the gauge, likely a split hose or dodge solder in the sender.

If you hit the Cat with palm of you hand, does it rattle? if so, broken insides...

Pics of the split hose would be good.
