hi guys

we bought our 1st skyline yesterday

r33 gtst stock and well looked after

really enjoyed the drive home up the freeway

i have previously owned a heavily modded vyss and our main car is a 2010 d22 navara heavily modded

will be lurking around forum hoping to get some help and ideas along the way

1st issue is to get her running right

seems to hesitate at 5000rpm

i suspect the new manual boost controller is not doing its job

as soon as the sun comes up ile have a look

then i might spend the rest of the day behind the wheel

a visit to the local dyno is also on the top of the list

any recomendations for a good tuner/mech in the newcastle area??

cheers

ian and tracey (its the wifes car)

welcome guys!

congratulations on the new addition.

when you get time, would love to see pics.

as for tuners up there, dvs_jez would be the way to go.

alot of positive feedback from customers.

and can I recommend joining sau.nsw...

one of the cheapest cams affiliated clubs, discounts to our events, and special events just for members.

hope to see you on some cruises.

next closest to you will be the putty rd cruise.

check out the events thread in nsw section for more details.

  • 3 weeks later...

some pics

IMAG0816_zps454c716b.jpg

IMAG0815_zps0ee45948.jpg

it goes in for a tanami exhaust today

previous owner needs a bullet for his attempt at exhaust

fitting new slotted rotors and ebc pads soon

then a set of coil packs, hopefully that stops the misfire above 5000rpm

then a set of 18's

then ile throw it on a dyno

we dont want to overdo it as its the mrs daily driver but i will go with a frontmount soon

any info on above mods appreciated

cheers

If you want rotors Timmy is selling some brand new DBA4000s cheap, PM me for his details.

Newcastle doesn't have much in the way of performance mechanics at this stage, the boys at Bellevue at Sandgate can do some stuff for you but as mentioned, JEZ is the way to go for tuning... There is a place listed as Blacktrack, please do not go there if you like your car and bank account.

Car looks good, hope you enjoy and also hope you come join the club with events etc

A dyno run for $400? I wouldnt bother in Newcastle to be honest.... DVS JEZ is one of our good members and a NSW EXEC, he also happens to own DVS Tuning which is handy as a large portion of our local members use him! Actually quite a few travel quite a distance to see him! Either send DVS JEZ a PM or add him on Facebook and send him a message, great guy and always willing to help, he is very very busy due to demand but will always get back to you.

Remember that Newcastle cops are cracking down on anything import or related and will hassle you for noise... So try keep it close to the legal db if you can to avoid hassle.

yeah they have no sense of humour

was defected 3 yrs ago with vy ss for noise, its legal limit was 91db and i went 107db ( xforce 3'' and extractors)

cop was a wanker, i wasnt even on the throttle,i think the young prick was jelous

what is the legal db for the skyline??

and are pillar mounted gauges illegal?

i have a set in my navara and havent been hassled

the skyline has a small boost gauge mounted on pillar

i believe the db is somewhat set to cars build year, hope the turbo back xforce passes cause its sitting in the shed and will be fitted saturday

another question

i hear bad stories about a/market bov's,are they worth the hassle?

thanks for your time guys

appreciate it

I sent Tim your details in regards to the brakes :)

The legal Db is 90db for skylines i am pretty sure! In saying that we got an EPA defect for a Diesel landcruiser SO try keep it quiet to avoid unwanted attention up here! It sucks i know!

Pillar gauges are deemed a no no too!

Aftermarket BOV are a cops pet hate, so are pod filters... So by doing the airbox you have fixed one thing BUT if you add a BOV you are back to square one, my advice is.... dont!

Varex will still cop you a defect if they are in the mood... You cant pass an inspection with one of them fitted! BUT if the car is clean and quiet there is a good chance they will leave you alone!

Glad you got in touch with Timmy!

was going to say this.

varex are tested at full open, so if too noisy, still a fail.

    • RBF660 doesn't meet DOT5.1 as it is too thick. DOT5.1 has a very low viscosity requirement compared to DOT3 or 4. (Dot5.1 must be half as "thick" as DOT4)   It would also be a big indicator for anyone using that fluid in extremely cold weather to possibly look to swap for something in the DOT5.1 range.
    • Here is as close as we got to a direct comparison(3 vs 4inch exhaust), a tickle more boost, which I am sure was in part due to the exhaust.  Made 790 on more boost.

    • They work on really anything track related now. They do my mates r35 gtr and it's a weapon of a car.
    • I use the penrite 600f in my cars and have had no issues even at Townsville v8s when I drove that but I bled fluid end of day for just in case. Good value and a about 38-40 on sale. Use castrol srf on the supercars and no need to Bleed brakes over a race weekend. Do the 1000km with no issues. Over 120 a bottle I seen at repco. A quality brake pad is always a good starting point the ebc stuff I've seen let go after 2 sessions with heavier cars. I'd be going to a decent track pad and maybe those porsche air guides on the control arm to help with some air over the rotor. Helps on 86/brz with stock callipers.
