Ok, so my ps3 has been playing up a bit lately and it keeps coming up saying data is corrupted and has to restore. kind of getting over having to do it every few weeks so I'm thinking I'll just get a new hard drive. I reformatted it a while back but it was still not right afterwards.

so what I would like help with is choosing a new drive, and where to get them from for a decent price. I currently have a 250gb in there and I have plenty of room left on it. I don't have many games that I play so I still have plenty of room on it, so size doesn't really matter. price matters more

pretty sure most people use SSD's these days. but pretty much every 2.5" SATA hard drive will do the trick, just stay away from hitachi and western digital green drives if your going for a hard drive. people dont seem to like the Samsung 840 SSD, but mines been running fine for some time now.

i use 2 places to get my PC gear from, PC Case Gear is one, but their freight can sometimes be pretty expensive. the other one i use is Megabuy, they work out about $3-4 cheaper on some items, but they use Star Track Express ( i personally favour them).

I thought the ps3s had problems with ssds??

I bought a 500gb from d-comp.

just ask your local computer shop.

The only local computer shops I can get to are dick smith (they know nothing) or harvey norman (they are ok, but don't keep much stock of hard drives) because of work. I leave for work at about 7:30am and get home after 6pm, so that narrows my options down a bit.

Buy online. I got mine from Mwave.com

something like this would probably get you by if your not interested in having rediculous amount of space. Slightly faster then standard and slightly more storage. But then you can go cheaper still if you want to stick with 250gb and/or you dont want to bump the speed up to 7200rpm

They don't necessarily have problems, but the benefits of a SSD aren't recognised as much with the PS3.

Comparison videos and reviews of using SSD in a PS3 and most of them will conclude that it's a waste of money.

Update: did a format in the old drive last night. Installed my games this morning. It was playing up a bit still. Restarted it and it wouldn't turn on. Lights came on but no-one was home. Wouldn't even boot in safe mode, etc. turns out I'd bought extended warranty when I bought the system and there was still about 2 years left, so it should get fixed/replaced for free.

That's Good News ,I just hope it doesn't take them 2 months to fix it

my mate who runs the place I bought it from said that the last one they had an issue with was just replaced without them even having to send the old one away (he then took the old one out to the local shooting range and blew it to pieces), so fingers crossed. he said mine faces the same fate if it gets replaced, lol.
