Hey Guys

Pretty sure my car still has a compliance cat in it and i'm thinking it could be colapsed/dying

So options are:

Xforce - $156 pp http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/XFORCE-HI-FLOW-CERAMIC-RACING-CAT-S13-SILVIA-R32-R33-SKYLINE-/141009781243?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20d4d681fb&_uhb=1

Venom 4" - $250 pp http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-Nissan-VENOM-High-Flow-Cat-Skyline-R32-R33-R34-GTST-GTR-S13-C33-A31-/251251072123?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7fbb1c7b&_uhb=1

Venom 5" - $300 pp http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-Nissan-VENOM-High-Flow-Cat-Skyline-R32-R33-R34-GTST-GTR-S13-C33-A31-/261191191269?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd0354ae5&_uhb=1

Catco Highflow - $175 pp http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=18066&cat=&page=1

Catco Metal Racing - $379 pp http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=16441&cat=&page=1

Obviously the best for the job will vary depending on power, but which would represent the best value for money in terms of "flow potential" per dollar or value for money etc?

Discuss... (hopefully this could become somewhat of a reference/review thread)

Xforce - $156 pp http://www.ebay.com....d4d681fb&_uhb=1 Had one, rubbish restrictive once it's hot

Venom 4" - $250 pp http://www.ebay.com....7fbb1c7b&_uhb=1 Both my mates have them, great quality. Core is welded in place too

Venom 5" - $300 pp http://www.ebay.com....d0354ae5&_uhb=1 A few of the boys here use/used them (I'm waiting for George to get back to Australia and making a custom 3.5" In/Out with the same body)

Catco Highflow - $175 pp http://justjap.com/s...066&cat=&page=1 Had one, it collasped on me

Catco Metal Racing - $379 pp http://justjap.com/s...441&cat=&page=1 Never used, no idea.

i was recently quoted $12 for a broom stick from bunnings,

unbolt cat

smash it out

high flow

don't get around the fact that it steps down to 2.5 inch, so there is still a restriction

and the potential for a big epa fine

and further discolouration of by rear bar

Sounds good, pretty much what i wanted to know

Might go the 5" body Venom to be on the safe side

George (Venom owner/worker) did say the 4" body will flow easily 250kWs, but if you're shooting fo over 300kW the 5" body will do.

Just to put things into perspective, look at the Catco range, their cats are much smaller, same cell count but they claim over 300kW easily, so look at Venom cats, they could be under rating them.

I'm just a little anal, so I'm asking for a custom one to be made up for me (totes overkill lol)

I have a 5in 100 cell from Venom - putting 308awkw through it atm

Yep i have a 5in 100 cell from Venom putting 390ish kw through it! Well in saying that the gate is doing a lot of work BUT still it flows well!

George was really good to work with! Great guy and went out of his way to help me when i was on a deadline!

out of interest what is the fine for doing this?

So are you saying that running E85 and no cat is legal?

 lol

You get caught with no cat and you are in trouble!!!

I have purchased a Catco Metal Racing - $379 pp that will go on my build to begin with. If I cannot get the results I want with it I will replace with a Venom 5" body 100 cell cat as I have heard good things about it.

from memory $1000 per cyl +get

But e85 is carbon neutral so you don't need a cat I think

Cat converters and carbon neutrality have nothing to do with each other. All road vehicles that comply with the ADRs MUST have a functioning cat converter fitted. There is no way around it.

that is what I thought too.

    • GTSBoy on your suggestion on another thread I had a look at those injectors and ended up getting them because of the quality.  Got the expensive ones.
    • Hey guys been looking everywhere to try and find the correct gtr hood latch support part number but only found the first half and when I search with that number it sends me to an r34. The first part I found was 62515. If anyone could help me with the rest then I’d really appreciate it. Or if there’s some alternative hood latch support that would work even better cause I can’t find any for sale. (Searched on upgarage, partsouq, buyee, rhdjapan)
    • If you've only done the upper control arms on the rear, AND you have changed their length (by more than about 1mm) to set the camber you want, then you will definitely need/want to install traction arms also. Adjusting the camber arms on their own WILL introduce bump steer and make the car unpleasant to drive. Most owners have no idea that their car could behave infinitely better than what they put up with. I'm not entirely sure what the Stageas need, but I am thinking that unless you have massive front spring rates and pretty soft rear springs, you have waaaay too much rear bar. Oversteer city, in my estimation. Combined with possible excessive bump steer from maladjusted arms, that could be a recipe for nastiness. ATR43SS2 is not a highflow. It is an outright replacement turbo. It's a little bit bigger than the largest highflow profile that Tao does. Probably a solid 300rwkW turbo where the bigger highflows will be about 30-40rwkW less. Nevertheless, we're only talking about ~300 rwkW, which is well within the abilities of the stock ECu to run with a Nistune on board. I would do so without hesitation - and I will be doing so when I get my finger out and actually get the injectors and AFM installed. But, if you would prefer to drop a whole lot more money on the ECU side, then I suspect you're looking at Haltech. The Haltech fanbois here will all spout on about all the available engine protection you can have, that you can't have with the Nistune option. And they're right. But it doesn't really come for free either. You will spend more money on extra sensors and the like, plus the work to install them. If the engine was built and therefore represented a big investment to protect, then I'd say definitely do it. If you view the current (and forever into the future) shortage of replacement engines as something to prompt similar protection, then also, do it. If you see a destroyed RB25 as an opportunity to put in a Mercedes or other V12 (like I kinda do)... then your perception of the risk/reward might differ. These are good injectors. You can also get a "better" set of the same with more flow matching, for more $$. 1000cc is where you will want to be. You will need an R35 AFM and adapter tube if you want to stay with Nistuned stock ECU. Otherwise, if going Haltech, you can ignore. As for intercooler. Just about anything will do. You're only talking about ~300rwkW. Just put a big core in there. Be aware that return flows do add significant pressure drop and will cost power and will make the turbo work harder to achieve the same goals. If you can manage a proper crossflow, do it. I'm keeping my very good return flow because I'm only expecting to be in the ~250rwkW range, and will live with whatever outcome I get.
    • I have a heap that i have collected if you want some authentic ones still. Pm me if your interested!
