poeticjustice88
Hey all. I need to know where YOU have your boost gauge vacuum line connected to on YOUR rb20det. I have read heaps of different things on the interwebz so please don t just tell me to google it. mine is connected at the back of the plenum. But i do not think i am getting the right reading. Which is why i want to know where YOURS is tapped into. Also, do i need to run the boost line to the little black box that is stock with the rb20det or can i just go straight to the plenum ? Frosty
can go straight of the plenum! there is no issues with that! there will be boost drop offcourse through intercooler and pipework etc so wont be exactly what the turbo is blowing. as for the standard electronic gauges they go from the plenum from factory Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428428-boost-reference/#findComment-6922698 Share on other sites
mad082
Yeah from the plenum is fine. From before the turbo is best (so you know exactly what the turbo is doing) but then you don't get a vacuum reading, so that can make diagnosing other problems harder at times. poeticjustice88
Ok answer me this. I have no bov so I have "dose". I know that you can have the dose sound while not being in positive pressure. Like the boost gauge not hitting zero yet. Because I have a t04e it takes ages to get boost. But shouldn my gauge read zero with just my foot flat even if the turbo is not making boost? I ask coz atm I rarely see it go past zero. But at the same time, at wot it slowly climbs to zero and I hardly see it there either Sorry if this is confusing, I cant think of the best way to describe it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/428428-boost-reference/#findComment-6924134 Share on other sites
niZmO_Man
"Dose" is air bouncing off the compressor blades when you close the throttle valve. As long as the turbo is spinning air > shut throttle > air goes back onto the compressor > pigeon noises WOT should read 0 vacuum. So yeah, you have some problems somewhere. On my car, standard gauge sits just above 0 while the engine is trying to spin past 2,000rpm (don't need WOT for it to that).
