Hey guys I'm a newly owner of a r34 gtt skyline. It's fairly stock besides the pod filter, after market exhaust and boost controller. I'm looking to get more hp/kw on a tight budget, what are some cheap/effective upgrades I can do to it without cutting corners? When I got the boost controller out on the high performance mechanic said my car lacked pressure and to upgrade the fuel pump. Is this a wise upgrade? And roughly the hp ill gain? I have a lot of questions considering I'm new to the whole tuning process

welcome to the forum mate

to answer your questions i guess it depends on what you want to achieve with the car in general. From what you have said im assuming you dont have a front mount so that would be a good cheap start. Also im assuming the zorst is a cat back so can add front/dump to the equation for some cheap power increases.

as for the fuel pump that isnt really going to improve power thus fuel pressure and ensure you have to the fuel in the rail for the car to use.

From there you start spending money on things like injectors/turbos/cams/cam gears/ECU and the list goes on

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I want to achieve a sustainable every day car while having abit more power in it. I was roughly going for somewhere around 250rwkw. For a front mount what type of kit would be suitable/available? Also where's a good place in the perth region to do all these mods?

for the 250wkw mark you will need to do a turbo upgrade aswell as injectors/ecu (or a remap of standard) Have a look under the forced induction sub section on here there is a whole thread on RB25 stuff which will help you and as for a front mount there is an abundance of places to buy them of the net or a local workshop

link to the FI thread here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/55845-rb25-turbo-upgrade-all-dyno-results/

I havent been in WA for 7years now so im not sure who is still around tho all my work used to be done by hyperdrive (my car was well in excess of the 500whp mark back then) but they are great people and will be able to sus everything you need.

I would suggest dropping into the WA section aswell and seeing who is around these days in WA for your performance work/dyno etc

    • I was more thinking so it doesn't flop around as much rather than for rotating it. Once you have the balance right, it should rotate well enough, depending on how much resistance there is on the pivot. I think you said the pivot point was on a bearing though didn't you?
    • You can get them with the worm drive rotator but I was too tight to pay another $250-$300 so manual labour it is! I don't think it will be too hard to rotate though.
    • Sag as in the windows start to slowly open themselves, or they're just slow to go up/down with engine off?
    • It looks like it needs a big worm gear drive on it to control the rotating, not a few sloppy pins!
    • As Duncan said, first there was OBD, which few cars used, then came OBD2.   Now an interesting point, OBD2 isn't even for what you want to do. OBD2 is for emissions testing. There is some sensor data on OBD2, but it's up to the manufacturer what they're putting on it. Most scan tools operate on UDS, which like OBD2 is a standard built on-top of CAN. UDS specifies how to structure a message, what very limited things mean such as "read memory address" but it does not specify what is stored in which memory address, that is all up to the manufacturer. You either a scan tool compatible with that vehicle, or to know how to reverse engineer all the data, which can take a VERY long time and a lot of vehicles to get it right. Oh and then the manufacturer does a firmware update and changes what's where... Ask me how I know that as fact Oh, and by the time you've got the scan tool that supports all the manufacturers stuff, well, you're back at "But a consult cable and the Nissan software" The main difference being most manufacturers software these days works with the same hardware readers, as the readers are built to support J2534 which is another standard for how the PC communicates with the tool to make it do specific things on the car...
