hey all,

the idea of the switch is a good idea to control when you want highboost or when u want two stage boost.

ANYONE got pics of their switch, or installation of the switch that they could post up.

assuming you cut the black wire and ground it, without using a switch.

just a quick question?

is this mod reversible? like if u want the two stage boost again without using a switch. further down the track could u reattach/solder the black wire through its original path again? or is stuffed once cut?

hopefully someone can help?

Cheers

I would imagine that you could solder the wire again, I just bought a 4 buck switch from supercheap, and mounted it in the dash I drilled a hole in the removable pushout panel thing, its just a simple on off switch,

I cbf running the wire through the firewall so i ran it next to the loom that follows the strut and continues to the wiper motor, then into the gaurd and the door, i know crap way of doing it but it works, BTW heres a pic or two! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just did this on my R34 this afternoon, it works..it's now hitting 8psi at about 2,500rpm.

Will be hooking up a switch next weekend to switch between high boost & low/hi boost.

Also, in the pic it looks like the black wire to the plug is still connected but it's not - it's just tucked back into the black surround.

Question:When I put on a full turbo back 3 inch exhaust this will be rendered unnecessary, correct?

Hi all. Is there anyone from sydney who has done this mod that wouldnt mind helpingme out. i live in the liverpool area and dont feel confident enough to start cutting wires. let me know.....there will be an ice cold six pack in it.

No. The only time it will be unnecessary is when you have some form of boost controller that will be bypassing the stock solenoid.

Seriously man... its the most simple job ever...

I just shoved a cotter pin down the back of the plug.. and grounded it to the airbox.. I can remove the mod within seconds and no cutting wires at all

No. The only time it will be unnecessary is when you have some form of boost controller that will be bypassing the stock solenoid.

I thought if the boost solenoid was left standard and I added a full exhaust which usually will up the boost by 2psi then the solenoid would be made obsolete?

no, instead of being 5psi/7psi (on an R33, not sure if its the same boost on R34's?) it will then be 7psi/9psi

I hoped it would be like that :P

So it's been tried & proven to be that way?

As far as im aware.. my exhaust is only catback.. However im running around 9.5 PSI... Blitz Turbo timer tell me 0.71 kg/cm2 (which equals 9.5psi) and just installed a boost gauge.. it also reads just under 10 psi

Is that possible with only catback?

Before the mod it was 7/9psi

hey i did this on my 33gtst and its poping and crap well by the way its a S1 4 speed auto , 600x300x75 intercooler and a 3.5inch stainless from cat back and i did this thing by cut the black wire and the black wire onto the car body and the black wire from the computer taped to block it . now took it up the street and it will get to 5 psi then it will just back fire and pop and jump or what ever eles .. then i put it all back to normal then it was fine . i wanted to do this thing , but can anyone tell me how to solve this problem . or anyone from lismore or ballina . cheers, adam

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
