the noise i get cant be avoided with careful clutch work. its always there. I know the clunking noise from sloppy clutch work and the noise i get is a single distint click, almost metallic like. turning the music up usually helps :P but i know its still there.

dido, mine is the same. light clickign noise, like a bearing being dropped into a tin can...and whether i ride the clutch, let it out at idle etc etc, it usually lcicks, and not always on the initial take up, sometimes i move 1-3 mtrs before it clicks

yep like a bearing into a tin can is a good description of it. looks like we have the same issue. it would be great to work out what it is??

i know i know i just dug up a very old thread about clicking but it's the only thread i discovered with the same problem as what im dealing with!!!!! Had anyone resolved this clicking problem?

Hey dude,

Very old thread haha!

But yes, I had this problem, when I first got my series 2 I had an annoying clunk coming from the rear of my car.

It turned out it was my standard muffler knocking against the under body, but it would only do it after it had warmed up!

As soon as the exhaust was changed it is quiet as. So thats one thing u can check if you still have the stock exhaust.

Also as mentioned earlier in this thread its worth attacking the standard suspension with a socket set and making sure everything is nice and tight.

Hope you can fix this mate, It used to drive me nuts!

Seeya!

This is giving me the shits, clicks most times when im in traffic and the driveline goes back and forth...clicks both sides. Sounds like a marble droppped in a tin can. Ive checked the half shafts for play but they are tight as, suspension is all tight.....exhaust isn't the issue. Handbrake is in good condition. any other ideas people...???

I've read, and I emphasize the *read* and not *know* part :P, that a similar problem can also be caused by the driveshaft from the gearbox to the rear diff.

Does it have any play in it?

I think my issue might be in one of the half shafts, I get a loud clunk on gear change and accelerating (after not accelerating for a while).

i genuinely think its not the drive shafts as its not a clunk as such, I might actually take the drive shafts out and have a geez just to satisfy that thought. Its like a click. From both sides. Doesnt effect any driving at all its just annoying as f**k and makes me wanna drive my corolla instead.
