No. This is strictly prohibited. It is dangerous and outright stupid.

People got pulled of LP for this and you will get pulled off the track for doing this.

really? didn't know drag racing was dangerous and outright stupid, would like to see you say that to all the drag races at willobank.

Every happy laps i have been to and only been with SAUQLD people have lined up at the straights and dragged each other off.

stop being a d!ck and use some common sense, Nick isn't talking about stopping and waiting for someone to tell them to go like actual drag racing.

Drag racing on a drag strip is different from drag racing on a circuit Eddy. Last QR happy laps several people were upset that they were being held up by people who couldn't/wouldn't go fast round the corners and not having the power to pass them when the car in front booted it on the straight. When people start lining up to drag down the straight it only exacerbates this problem. This is happy LAPS not a drag day. With that said if you aren't holding anyone up there is nothing stopping you having a good squirt down the straight.

Should come down Chris take the 32 for a cruise

i must say I'm pretty pissed off over the whole qr "line up" thing. I think there is plenty of room to have a decent run down the multiple straights that have alot of run off and dead zone, in the unlikley event that the worst did happen. But compared to putting the car on the limits around a corner as far as "danger" is concerned i think the "danger" factor is minimal.

Well on the other side of things mayb people got annoyed at the underpowered cars that hounded sedate drivers around the corners and then held them up in the straights where people could actually open up their car and enjoy it

Qr isn't a "drivers" (which I know so many of you pride yourself in being) track, it's 4 straights and some hair pins that's 4 lanes wide at most points... Enjoy it for what it is

As far as I am aware QR sets the rules not the club. Seems you guys are bitching to the wrong people

This. Exactly this. Thanks Bunta.

It is not a drag day, it is a happy laps sesh. If you want to go to the drags, go to Willowbank. You can give it a squirt down the straights but this is only meant to be cruising speeds.

The reason that they don't like people lining it up on the straights is because if someone comes around a corner and goes into a car that's slowed down. There will be a complete shit fight which nobody wants.

Actually QRs stance is that if you run out of talent and punch it into someone else's car while overtaking they will put the onus on you and back the owner of the vehicle YOU hit. Diving down the inside under brakes on happy laps is strictly prohibited.

I see no reason why a roll on from 60/2nd gear cant be had down the straight. Your argument that "if you want to go to the drags use the strip" is about as valid as "if you want to do hot laps go to the time attack weekends". It is a safer, more legal alternative to what used to happen every saturday night on the m1 and to be honest if you are running the national track and doing 60 all the way around you would probably fall asleep out of boredom.

Exactly what my argument was, we all know QR is a driving sleeping pill, and stuff like diving up the inside under brakes shouldn't be encouraged in any form at a HAPPY laps...

I just had a 40 minute debate with Tony (#T5iv) over it and a few other things at QR, perhaps give him or Scott (#SABBi) a call or PM and have a chat to them there instead of here :)

Pass, I have nothing to do with the club and am likely unwelcome anyway.

Enjoy.

I think everyone is too worried.

Tony is just wording it in the best way for the club. No one will be doing 100km/h down the straight. and as has been mentioned, a small grudge match on the straight isnt going to hurt anyone. But if you create a massive traffic jam, then it should be obvious to get out of the way and let them continue.

I think I started this by my post of the Downshift happylaps. If I get in traffic like that, I'll just back off till I have room.

Then, who knows what layout of track we are going to be on? Most of the time is club or sprint, Ive only been to one national. And this changes the track alot and leaves you with only 1 race straight.

    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
