Hi guys,

I am posting this thread in the hope that someone can point me to the new owner of my 1999 Vspec R34GTR which I sold in late 2010.

I sold the car to a guy in NSW, which apparently crashed it, and then the current owner bought it from a damaged auction and brought it back to its former glory.

Reason I am looking for the new owner is because the guy that bought it off me never transferred the registration and the vin number is still registered in my name.

So I need to clear this issue up with the new owner, as I will need a letter from them to say where and when they bought the car as supporting evidence.

It was my mistake I didn't lodge the disposal notice with the SA Branch of motor reg.

So anyone with any info please send me a private message.

When I had it the number plate was VSPC34.

Ah yes true...I have had similar things where the buyer went straight from my house onto Eastkink for their trip home...also picked up a speeding fine along the way...I don't understand wanting to drive a car like this if someone can prove it was you...or even wanting to put a seller through that.

Should be able to use receipts from date of sale.

I doubt vicroads is going to give you the name and address of a person based on a registration/VIN number - case in point, i get road raged, take down a license number and go to vic roads? go round to the guys house....?

It's all hindsight stuff now, but when i sell a car I write out a pretty detailed receipt of sale - stating the time and date that the car is being handed over, that the buyer accepts legal responsibility for the vehicle from that time forward (to prevent things like fines etc), and that they have a set amount of time (usually 14 days) to transfer the vehicle into their name with the relevant authorities after which the registration will be cancelled by me. Get both parties to sign it with a license number that you've sighted. Keep a copy for yourself.

It is also very wise to ask the buyer to show you the cover note they have arranged for their insurance - i can't imagine the sh1t fight that would go down if you cancelled your own insurance and the new owner had an accident before they had the car transferred into their name. I usually leave the car insured until i've got confirmation from the new owner they have succesfully transferred it into their name.

But like you said - it was an oversight by you not cancelling your SA rego after you sent it to NSW. It's a timely reminder as I'm about to send a car up to ACT with Vic rego, so thanks.

I just spoke to VicRoads regarding the sale of my own car interstate - there is no real failsafe to prevent this from happening unless you physically site proof from the new owner of transfer of ownership.

She did say that registration numbers and ownership are stored in databases at a state level, but that VIN's and ownership are stored in a national database that the state authorities reference off.

So when someone newly registered your SA car in VIC, the VIN should have have flagged when checked against the national database as being registered in your name in SA.

Obviously this is what happened with the second owner - he didn't transfer the vehicle into his name once the car went interstate - it never flagged in the national database, you didn't pay your registration renewal, the vehicle become unregistered in SA - but still under your ownership at both a state and national level. I'd say the ball has been dropped between when the vehicle was paid out and sold at auction. Still, it should have flagged again when the third owner bought it, fixed it, especially as it would have had to go through a VIVS.

Anyway - regardless - call VicRoads there is a number in the options menu you can select to check a vehicle's current registration status. Give them the VIN and see what comes of it.

    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
    • Not required but appreciated. Super Coppermix Twin even the non-competition model feels like the pedal is noticeably heavier than stock which was pretty well judged IMO. I'll be swapping in the Nismo operating cylinder soon to see how that feels.  Personally I haven't felt anything that justifies replacing the damping loop, at least compared to more modern stuff where the clutch delay valve is actually quite noticeable.
