V35 - Replacement Radiator (Reasonable Cost For Parts + Installation?)

Hi All,

Part of the first wave of v35 owners in Australia.

Abolsutely love the car, have owned it for about 5 years now....however it is now starting to fall apart

Anyway was driving on the weekend and noticed smoke coming out of my engine! Long story short I took it to the local mechanic the next day, who informed me that I have a cracked radiator that needs replacing. They quoted me $790 for a koyo radiator, installation and coolant.

Am I being a tad overcharged here?

I came across the same radiator on ebay (local supplier) for $289:

I was thinking of buying this and paying for installation, so much question is what is a reasonable price to pay for installation (labour)?

It's probably a 2 hour job including bleeding the cooling system. I assume they would replace the coolant too. Sounds a bit steep to me.

I bought the exact same one from Ebay a few months ago, thought I could save a few bucks and just pay for installation. Ended up not being a straight fit as the mounting points for the fan were completely different and required modification. In the end I returned it got a refund and mechanic found one in NZ that was a direct fit and OEM as well. Ended up costing around $700 all up too. Mine was a series 2 sedan though and thats why it didn't fit apparently. If yours is a coupe it should be OK, but still I wouldn't guarantee it.

is the 350Z radiators the same? or diffrent?

350Z has a different radiator cap position. I bought a cheap china one from ebay for a coupe, and of course it's not a direct fit. and mack around with it for 4-5hrs before it fitted in. Of course I bought a 2 core radiator which is double the thickness of the OEM. If you have someone with golden hands, yes why not, if not. forget it.
