Hi all, I'm looking to buy a R34 GTR in the near future and have started browsing locally and abroad to get an idea of what's out there (haven't kicked any tyres yet).

I know my way around bodywork/paint and I know on these cars the front/rear bumpers, skirts and taillights are a slightly different colour shade to the body, obviously because the base material is plastic compared to steel. However I've also noticed that a lot of R34 GTRs have slightly different shade doors when compared to the fenders/shell/quarters. I figured it could be an optical illusion due to the angle of light or shape of the panels but it seems too common on a lot of cars I've seen. What's the go - am I seeing things that aren't there or is there a reason for this? Were the panels/doors painted off the car when built?

Also to confirm, the bonnets on all R34 GTRs are alluminum except for the V-Spec II being carbon fibre, right? Are any other panels (fenders/doors) ally too?

Just want to be aware of what the go is as I want to get a car with a clean original body!

Thanks!

Front guards are also aluminium.

Auction papers or a paint thickness gauge (revealing aberrations), can tell if a panel has been replaced.

Shades can vary in 3 areas

a) metal

b) bumper bars

c) rear light housings

*d) aftermarket or even genuine Nismo skirts and pods are usually matched up with the metal bodywork as best they can, but that's not always possible.

Skirts and pods are mostly placed on in Oz. Japanese owners mostly left them off.

PS Bayside Blue, Midnight Purple II and III are extremely hard to match

PPS Red and Pearl colours are only marginally easier

PPPS Colours that tend to fade like Yellow & Red often require blending with test cards being used as references
