I don't understand. Is this rule strictly going to permit new lower powered turbo charged vehicles or is this rule going to permit ANY turbo charged vehicle with the power to rate ratio being followed.

Stupid rule. It isn't hard to get a VW gold to produce more power. What are the police going to do now, have portable dyno's to check all the P platers cars? Or have them all carry dyno slips. Or make it compulsory to get your car dyno'd at every registration. If these kids are still killing them selves on the roads, as the stats show, giving them vehicles with turbos which do have big capabilities for harnessing power seems silly.

They can already drive the R32 VW golf legally and that thing is a 0 - 100 in 5.6 second machine.

not sure why but in Canberra we are allowed to drive turbo cars im still on my P's. But you have to sit a 2 or 3 day class before getting your Ls. I guess if they do this in any other state they might want to add a defensive driver course or something along those lines. Would like to know the statistics of P plater related accidents in Canberra and compare with NSW as a ratio.

Not even those who live here.

It isnt the fatal accidents dowb here. It's every f**k knuckle p-plater doing burnouts at every interection in town on friday/saturday nights

Well EXCUUUUUUUUUUUSEEE ME........... :ph34r:

Just because deaths have fallen since the ban doesn't mean it's directly related to the restrictions, how many of those p plater deaths prior to ban were actually turbo'd? Who knows... They just put all these statistics in everyone's heads to make it sound like turbo's are killers, when in reality, they're more cops on the road, technology of cars increases over the years providing much safer cars, plus all the other factors in "p plater deaths".

GTS = gay brakes.
GTST = much better brakes.
Which one will stop quicker? Well OBVIOUSLY the GTS, because it's not "powerful" enough to reach those ridiculous speeds. /sarcasm

I say, from a Green P plater (almost fulls) point of view, green p platers should be able to drive 130kw/t turbo's, do X amount of defensive driving courses and you can drive unrestricted. That's incentive for "hoons" to actually go and do a defensive driving course, because regardless of the car they're in, they gonna hoon. Then just hope they learn something from the courses. As with the added benefit of enthusiasts to also learn.

  • 2 weeks later...

just stick with honda n VTECCCCC

seen alot of them on cumberland highway tried to race me.. lol i usually just laugh at their face..

but i reckont he p plate ban is really.. back in 2003 alot of p platers got turbo car so everywhere u go u can hear BOV and ppl racing everywhere

Back before the ban came in I had 6 frineds die and high speed crashes.

Not one was driving a Turbo or V8 car, all 4 cyliders.

I beleive it doesn't matter what the power of the car is, it comes down to the drive and how expirenced they are behind the wheel.

Give the P platers the right to drive these cars, but one mistake take that right away from the individual not the whole demographic...

Sorry to hear about your losses. Ive gotta add to this though. Sure none of them were driving v8s or turbos but believe you me there is a huge difference in driving a slow car at high speed vs driving a proper fast car. If you just got onto your ps and I gave you a manual excel told you to floor it down a one way length of roas. Youll be fine. If I gave you my skyline and told you to do the same thing you would potentially lost it before you got into second. I let a mate of mine drive my car. Hes never driven turbo and hes on his fulls. I told him to give it some and the moment from 1 to 2nd broke out he panicked and slammed on the brakes. This isnt experience you gain from a piece of plastic. You gotta learn fo crawl before you walk the figure out walking before you start running or youll fall down and hurt your self.

What if your mates were daily drivers of big v8 cars. Do you think as a young p plater they would respect the car or is it just a bigger faster louder toy.

^ As above, it all comes down to the driver. Kids will rebel and do stupid shit. Question is, what would you allow them to do it in? A 1.4L turbo Holden Cruze, which has stability/traction control, bunch of airbags and other safety features, or a VN Commodore?

You can only try to educate and train them. NSW license testing is piss easy, reverse parallel parking won't help you when you have to avoid another car. Hell, I've seen heaps of people on their fulls not know how to park or drive. To think they could be teaching kids how to drive!

I wonder where all the revenue from speed cameras/safety cameras, rego, etc are going to.

Agree driver education is key. Also if these safer cars will help then allow them to use them. But I don't see the point of how driving older 20+ year old cars just cause they are legally allowed to will add to a reduction of road fatalities or whatever the reasons they are pushing.

I know my point is the it doesn't matter at the end of the day all cars can do a high speed and anyone can lose control.

But I do agree with you for the most part.

I just don't think everyone should be punished for a few idiotsâ¦

    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling,etc
    • @dbm7 and @GTSBoy thank you both very much! will give that a shot!
