As I'm the final throes of getting my car ready for the track, I've been looking into upcoming events to get some track time. For the most part, it seems like I can get away with the cheaper and easier to obtain AASA licence, as the SSCC Supersprint at SMSP only requires AASA, and as far as I can tell so do most other supersprints and club track days.

So what would I need an L2S for? Apart from being more expensive, it's also a pain in the ass to obtain. What's the benefit?

I have both, the L2S was really easy to get... Just costs more!

I had to get the L2S to run with the hillclimb series, if the AASA covers everything you want to enter then i dont see any disadvantage to having it :)

Cams L2S you can do hill climbs, sprints, drift, motorkhana's etc

AASA club level will only do track days and sprints at some tracks.

some tracks in NSW are now pretty much only Wakefield and SMP south. SMP south it all depends on the club running the day.

for example,

MX5 club (homo's! haha) run on SMP south but through CAMS, of course the CAMS supersprint series is by CAMS.

SSCC, Festival of Sporting Cars run under AASA at SMP South. the other SMP tracks (North, GP, Brabham) are on CAMS.

so really, what events do you want to run?

dont think there is an events calander out for next year yet so hard to forecast what events to run.

for me, I ditched my L2S as I wasnt doing hill climbs, only door to door through MRA and FoSC which are all AASA.

$100 bucks for AASA racing, or $110? for a sprint licence from CAMS...!

I believe that for club track day the AASA $50 license is fine. But for CAMS you have to have L2S (>80kph).

Also you have to get CAMS through being a member of a CAMS club. SAU NSW is a CAMS club so you can obtain through us.

Best to go to the websites and read the info on their forms.
