Ppls.. ;)

My cars just been resprayed. I pick it up Thursday. ;)

I poped down today to check it out without its windows and lights in.

It hasn't been buffed or checked over yet but from what I can tell it didn't look like it needed a buff.. Its soo damn shinny. The Colour is such a rich black.

Looks awesome.

So thats got me thinking.. What Polish?

Should I use a Wax type polish or the other type of polish like NuFinish or 5 Star?

I've used NuFinish on a different car and it did keep the water beading for much longer than the usual car polish. It was also easy to remove bird crap.

BUT.. does it really protect the paint?!?!

Pinnacle Souverain, S100, Poorboys or Clearkote Moose Wax...

Good luck finding them here though, I order mine from the states.

You can get S100 from Harley Davidson dealers in Australia, so that's probably the best bet for you.

I use Meguires Gold Class. I use to buy it from the US when I was travelling over there with my old job (it cost me ~$6US) Luckly I haven't run out of it yet. But when it's time to get more I think I'm up for mid $30's.

I would highly recommend the Meguires Gold Class.

Clearkote Moose Wax is the goods, if there's an aussie distributor I'd get it from them in a flash, but right now i'm restricted to when a friend goes over tot he US only.

Oh and buy a clay bar... mmm clay bar.

You can order Clearkote products online:

www.clearkote.com

I have ordered from Everett Glass (clearkote's head honcho) before and I can recommend NOT to get it shipped via surface mail... It took MONTHS to arrive. Get it sent via airmail.

I also suggest to purchase the following:

Clearkote QuikShine (admittedly Meguiars QuikShine is also very good), Vanilla Moose Wax and Moose Wax.

Order of application:

1. Wash car with Dawn dishwashing liquid or other akaline based detergent. This will cut right through all existing waxes and remove buildup of product. (only do this every third waxing application)

1. Clay Bar (if needed)

2. Vanilla Moose Wax (removed surface marring (swirl marks))

3. Quik Shine

4. Moose Wax (protectant and gives that deep, wet look to your paintwork)

5. Quik Shine

Spend a day doing the above and your black paint will look like a billion dollars. Depending on whether you garage your car, park it under trees, near the ocean, etc... That will protect your car for about 3-6 months. It won't stop swirl marks however, so you will have to do it more often if you want your car looking swirl-free all the time.

And if you don't like the products, PM me and I'll buy them off you.

These are PROFESSIONAL car care products, not consumer targetted, mass-marketed products like Meguiars and Mothers.

As for towels and sponges etc... Stick to microfibre towels for drying, and pure lambswool mitts for washing the car, constantly wringing it out and spraying off all the contaminants so you don't rub dirt over your paint which will obviously scratch it. Goto http://www.autopia-carcare.com for great detailing products. Their concours range of towels are HEAVEN! ;)

Actually just looking at Clearkote's website, they have released a new Carnauba Wax... Everett gave me a small sample of some new wax he was about to release in my last order, I wonder if that's the one...

Whatever it was, it was excellent ;)

wow and here i was thinking the only thing merli ever cared about was the feel of soft supple leather on his naked skin...

-joel-.... you're on street commondoors aren't you? I recognise you nick from a thread that's sorta skylines vs commondoor on there.

a clay bar i well its a bar of clay, you rub it on your car and it takes all the dirt off without scratching the paint/polish. Its THE best way to remove grit, dust particles that have sorta gotten intot he polish etc, that usually don't come off with the pre wash.

Moose Wax - $30 (Quart... This is enough to wax your car about 20 times)

Vanilla Moose - $12

QuikShine - $38 (Gallon... This will last you for AAAAGES)

--------------------

Total - $80

Therefore, I suggest you get that "Show Special for $60" at the bottom of the Order Form Page... Great value!

Shipping is pretty expensive though... But what's $150 (all up) when you've just spent thousands on a top quality paint job?

Oh, I've never had a car resprayed before, but I think you have to let the paint cure for a few weeks? So don't go washing it or something until the paint is completely cured. Ask your spray painter. Depends on how the car was baked as well I think.

And since it's a new paint job, I think you can skip the clay bar

Okay first of all thoe a paintjob is baked in an oven it still has to breathe and the paint to form its hardest form this takes a week or so. The only polishes you can use are "pure" polishes I believe meguires sell these types but don’t have too much info on other brand. My 2 cents

    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).
    • ...oops. forgot the TCU end...
    • No I got mine from a friend that had fabricated one … but I had to fit it to my setup which was a hks turbo setup. His was a Garrett -7. So one of my turbos was not a flange for one side … then I had a leak in the welds I had to find a weld shut … in the end the setup was decent priced but I spent a lot to get it fitted. A couple companies I checked would make it but you’re talking 7-9k aud with titanium. No joke mine was 6-7k even second hand after I had to fit it in Hong Kong … labour is expensive here.
    • I'd just like to restate that I don't think anyone here is actually hating I recently sold a car part to a guy who was building a forged auto R34, with MV stall and aiming at ~450kw. I told him that I'm him, from the future and to stop after it explodes once. I told him I knew he won't listen the first time, and that's fine. But if my predictions do come true - Change direction faster than I did. I also said it's probably no coincidence that the dyno plot of a reliable turbo engine starts to look a lot like a N/A motor. :p
    • Got just the wing painted and fitted up to the existing boot. Big visual change and about time after having a GTR wing sitting in the shed since 2018 Headed up to Mallala with a quick obligatory stop in at Boliver OTR Oil control mods seems to have worked. I checked the catch can after session 1 and there was a dribble of water/e85 with barely any oil in it. After session 2 and 3 there was almost nothing and I stopped checking after that. so either great success or catastrophic failure/block of the external breather The GTR wing made a noticeable difference in the 160-185km/h sweepers. It was a very hot day for the cars at over 33C but the previously done cooling upgrade/ducting/water sprayers meant I never saw over 60C intake, 105C water and 100C oil and temps would drop back down very quickly once I shut it down. AD09's are a decent tyre but certainly and expectedly a step down when compared the the CR-S/AR-1 I have had on the car for years of track days. The handling characteristics of my car which I often describe using the Tony Hawks Pro Skater balance mechanic where either side of the center is understeer/oversteer was much more pronounced with no "green/safe" zone in the middle. However, imo it steers well/easily during oversteer largely thanks to the custom ACOSTAL front end. Enjoy a loose lap POV with my mate giggling away as a passenger.   Group photo for Peer Pressure Racing made it back home and gave it a wash Overall a great success compared to my previous two track days where i cooked the Starlets motor and blew up the new diff in the R32
