so whats the go with the clay bars? I have never seen one or been told how to use one?

do you just rub it on the paint?

I am sure everyone who has never used one is curious too...............

Funkymonkey,

-joel-.... you're on street commondoors aren't you? I recognise you nick from a thread that's sorta skylines vs commondoor on there.

nar I don't think so.. maybe quite some time ago when I felt like stirring the pot.

bangahh,

Did you have a body kit and did they take that off to respay also ??

Yer they pulled out everything. Bumpers, All windows, lights/blinkers/tail lights, door trims, basically everything.

No body kit.. I like the stocker with big fat wheels look, not that I have big fat wheels, but yer eventually. :)

Merli,

Thanx.. I spoke to the ppls and they said to only wash it with a soft car shampoo, he said not to use any car wash etc with wax or uv protectants for 6 weeks. The paint has to breath and harden properly.

The car was painted using PPG paints and was baked under Infra-red lights which is supposed to give a harder paint with higher gloss etc.

Oh and look what I bought on my ventures tonight....

I thought the clay bar should only be used about once a year to strip the surface of contaminants back to the clear coat. I have used the megiuars one. U spray on some quick detailer to lubricate the surface then in a circular motion rub the clay bar in.

Nice work :) I have one of those and it works nicely... Don't accidentally use the other side though

The other thing is, to fill up the bucket with detergent and water and don't stir it up with your washmitt when you dunk it back in... squeeze the washmitt a few times to dislodge the dirt off the mitt into the water and to pickup some more water, but don't stir up the water and bring up the settled dirt at the bottom of the bucket.

Also wash the car from top to bottom. That is, start with the roof, then the windows/top half of doors/bonnet/boot, and then go do the bottom of the doors/bumpers/etc... Leave the dirty bits for last (bottom of the car) so you don't go waving over the rest of the car.

Make sure you wash your washmitt VERY thorougly after you're done and get all the dirt out of it.

Sorry if you know all this, I thought I'd say it just in case cos I know you'll want to make sure your paintwork stays in top condition :P

Funky: I'd like to put another order through to Clearkote for more wax, so we might be able to figure something out? Not sure how we'd split up the shipping though... It'll be a bit hard with everyone ordering different amounts of product.

Yah, you don't do it very often... Maybe once or twice a year.

merli you can ship it to syd, i'm in syd once every 3 months or so anyways and can pick it up... as long as you don't live in castle hill... them hills people are annoying with all their roundabouts.

Can i recommend you the best car Polish in the world?

The Zaino Bros?

www.aurora-one.com.au

You'll see the different that will shine everyones eyes.

Zaino is good... Very durable, but it doesn't have the depth of shine as the other carnauba waxes that I listed on the first page.

Usually Zaino users are Zaino Nazis... They are so fixed on their "miracle product" that they can't see past it to realise that there are other products out there that can give a deeper shine and wetter look than their polymer-based synthetic God....

It's good, make no doubt, but you have to apply like 4+ coats to get a nice deep gloss out of it... and even still, it's not as good as one application of a good professional carnauba wax.

It does last a long time though. Excellent for those who don't like polishing and waxing their cars every 3 months.

$150 for a comprehensive top quality car care kit that will last a few years is a good price.

Considering the same thing in Meguires etc will cost you about 60-80 depending on what ones you buy and how much, that US stuff is good value for the quality your getting.

The best thing you can do is store the car in a garage with minimal dust when its not in use. Paint can fade and dull from the sun's constant abuse and its something that you dont want happening to a new paint job. Another plus is that you can wash the car less and keep it immaculate looking for longer :P

What color Joel? Any pics?? How much was the full respray :)

So what do you Recommend the Best? Because Zaino is out of stock all the time?

You use Clearkote yourself?

Cheers

clay bars, lamb this, caraubo wax that... bah! I use a scotch brite thing, the green and yellow things, use the green side on my Pulsar :) Now THAT gets the dirt out..

..... along with the paint :D :uhh:

Due to other cars in the garage my car stays exposed to the elements (its still locked up behind gates for the thieves reading this).

So I went out and bought an original Nissan R32 optional car cover, works a treat and is so soft on the underside... no scratching for me :)

    • Went looking at mine, reading off the tyre, presumably these are 1st week of 2003. Still hold air (I haven't had to pump them up in over 12 months!)     I couldn't quickly find the date on the front tyres, they were fitted around 2008 to the rims, so probably not quite as old, but they have a lot more dry rot cracks in them. Still hold air.
    • I am now intrigued to go check the dates on the tyres on my Skyline... We need a game of who has the oldest tyre still holding a car up, and successfully holding air (for longer than a 2 weeks I feel is successful air holding).   I feel your tyres may be beating mine
    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
