You can't get angry at people for being Angry at you for stupidly breaking the law.

Fixed your post...

Andrew, we've got a massive problem in Vic with police cracking down on import and modified car owners because of hoon driving... We're mildly annoyed (to say the least) because your actions were just fuelling the fire.

Go stuff ur self who are you to tell me. If you don't have anything useful to say then mind your own business

Isn't it a good thing your on a forum where people express their opinions, and from your defensive yet boyish reply, I can tell you made the thread to hopefully confide in other import owners and stroke your ego.

Odium is on the money- people are really starting to get quite over people like you that break the road rules and cry blue murder because you got caught. Be a man and take responsibility for your actions.

No choice for you mate, years ago when i too was a f*kwit i was caught doing 160 in an 80 zone, I was by myself and in the middle of nowhere and nothing could save me, having a full year off from driving cost me my job and many hardships with the missus and a family....... I have not had a speeding fine since.

You do the crime you pay the fine, unfortunatley for you your fine is a loss of graduation and job prospects. You had passenges and at that speed you will not get your licence back for ANY reason unless you have a few hundred thousand dollars in your back pocket to pay for extremley good lawyers.

Prepare for the fun of not having the ability to drive anywhere, and afer a year of it you will think twice before risking other peoples lives.

Andrew, there is no way in hell you will get your speed reduced enough at court to change the 12 month suspension. If you take matter to court you SHOULD get charged with conduct endangering life and speed dangerous. If convicted on those you WILL have a criminal conviction also so I think the choice is obvious. Just take the fine and suspension, you got off very easy.

I would have definitely charged you for all offences and impounded your car, IMO this is very slack by the police member.

Speeding penalties are MANDATORY. The only way out of it is to hire a lawyer who can get you out of it, 100%.

To do this you will need to plead not guilty to the speeding offence and then present the data proving your innocence. If you cannot do this, you're boned. If you try and fail, expect a worse punishment than what has already been metered out.

You cannot plead guilty and ask for a more lenient punishment, it is 100% impossible. Mandatory means the court has no alternative.

and I've love to see a Not Guilty Plee after admitting on a public forum that he clocked 180km/h with a car load full of mates while it was wet... but it was ok because it was a long straight road with noone around... (<--- Shows that the OP thinks that it was ok)

To play devil's advocate, I wonder why there isn't a law based on the severity of the crime. Surely if you are alone, in a deserted area, endangering only yourself, in the dry, in a car where this speed is 'safe', doing 180kmh is less of a serious offence than doing it in the CBD with a full load of toddlers directly at the Flinders Street Station road crossing.

It really shouldn't be as severe a crime.

But it is, and you'll be on the bus.

Charles, you would be able to travel but you would have to declare that you have a prior criminal conviction. Also will show up on police checks for employment, good luck explaining that to potential employer.

Location of offence does matter. Get caught at 150 in middle of nowhere in dry weather, probably not speed dangerous or conduct endangering, but do 100 in 50 zone in rain almost hitting kids at school crossing same speed offence but will have much higher penalty at court.

180kmh in wet conditions with a full car is beyond retarded / insane. You do not deserve a licence seriously.

Do not even bother trying to appeal that. And I bet you would get more than 12 months if you try too. A guy I worked with was caught doing a similar speed in DRY conditions ALONE and managed to lose his licence for two years and has to start from his Red P plates again (nsw).

A car full of people?!

If I was the police officer I would have just put a bullet in your knee and taken your car.

would love to see that happen :whistling:

It is Victoria. Shoot now. Ask later.

On a serious note. OP you got what you deserved.

If you weren't driving like a douchebag you wouldn't be in this predicament.

What i find funny is that you did something so dumb, admited to it here, and want people to help you get away with it?

Nah you knew the risk you took, you knew what the punishment was if you got caught and you did, now you have to take the punishment.

    • Hmm makes things tricky then.  I can't in good faith say, go forth my child and weld in whatever metal you remove in your quest for rust. I very strongly expect that adventure will end in sadness.  But you can't leave the car as it is, you literally have a hole in the roof. Also, I know you think the rust doesn't go much further, but the more I look at those photos, I really think the rust does in fact go much much further.  If you are 100% committed to being the only person working on the car.... stop where you are, hit it with rust converter, fiberglass, body filler, paint work, pretend you never discovered the rust in the first place?  Even if the body was repaired, painting the roof is a pain. Were you planning to use rattle cans to paint the roof?
    • Ok so I will not defend my naivety. I regularly feel like things look easier than they are.  As much as I'd love to, buying another vehicle is out of the question. It was hard to get this car through the family process and we just don't have the room.
    • If your current chain of thought is, I'll go somewhere like pick and payless (or equivalent) and causally remove the bit of roof with your BYO grinder then casually weld that into your car... oof. It might sound easy but you will 100% end up with a warped roof. You say you'd prefer some ugly fab work, but I don't know if your prepared for how ugly this will be lol.  I've seen professional welders do similar but easier repairs and still end up with warped panels.  It is reasonable to assume that from your current skill level, you won't be able to do this cut and paste job while keeping flat panels.  Ok, but we are here to learn. This might be the go... jump on car sales, sort by price, buy the cheapest thing with rego and drive it home. This is your new practice vehicle. If you're thinking of doing the cut and paste job, try it on this car. Cut out the panel (hey it's a perfect fit) weld in the panel. See what you think of the results.  Next thing you could try, practice removing the entire roof in one piece by drilling out all the spot welds etc. Have a crack and welding the roof back on.
    • I've never welded but I own a welder and I've always wanted to learn. In fact I had already looked at a 1 day welding course in Sydney.  I'd prefer some ugly metal fab than anything weak.  I'm challenging myself a lot with this car. For so many years I've just paid other people to do things and I've always been keen to learn and get better.
    • Ok, thats a good starting point.  So before we start.... do you mind if the car say isn't a strong as it was before? My first thought is go excavating for rust. You'll be left with a gaping hole, that will be filled with fiberglass. You could make it look factory pretty easily but yeah, if you never crash it will never be an issue right? Before we look at other options, how confident are you welding?
