Hi Scuttee,

I am trying to buy the grom unit for my 2003 V35 premium coupe. Before I order one online, I wanted to ensure that I am ordering the correct one. Is this the one that you have on your V35? BT3. http://www.gromaudio.com/store/bt3_adapters/nissan_infiniti_aux-in_mp3_bluetooth_ipod_iphone_adapter_-_sat_emulation.html

Also, what is the CDC Niso2 cable? Do I need to buy that as well? By reading from the previous posts, I understand that once I receive my Grom unit, I will need to do a firmware update with version 28.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Cheers

I bought the USB2P unit as seen here http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/usb-android-car-kits-c-7/nissan-usb-android-integration-kit-p-45, the main function of this one is usb streaming and android streaming so it best suited my needs and then i ordered the bluetooth extra. You will have to check the BT3 one is compatible and that means the NIS2 (NIS02) cable which comes bundled if you select the right package but you can always buy new cables later if you ever wanted to put it in a different car then just reflash with the right firmware. I bought from this dealer in the UK as i had trouble ordering from the US Grom store but have had no issues with technical help or support as they just direct you to Grom. They said they have a lot of V35's over there when i asked whether it suited our car so they know what suits ours.

The important thing is our stereos use the CD changer port not the satellite port like on the Infiniti's so the one you linked might be a bit iffy as it says SAT emulation, should be the same as here though http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/integrated-bluetooth-kits-c-19/nissan-bluetooth-integration-kit-p-137 and that says CDC so should be good. I'd just throw an email to make sure it's the correct one.

Hi Scuttee - thanks for your feedback. I'll order from the UK store which says CDC. Did you set it up yourself? I'm not that great with stereo installations and am time constrained so I'll take it to a technician.

By the way when you ordered yours from the UK store, did you choose Nissan 350z as the car model?

I don't think i chose a car model, just went with a the Nissan box and made sure the vehicle specific cable was 'NIS2 - Nissan'.

Install was fairly easy as i i had taken the dash apart before for a band expander and used the same positap type connector for the wire so it was basically the same, had the zip tie the box and cables together to make sure they wouldn't come out though and then stuff them in the bottom to fit under the stereo. It's really only one plug you put in the stereo then tap into a wire so you'll need to use a multimeter and find a constant wire in the stereo wiring. I'd take it to someone if you don't want to route the mic, usb etc cables around yourself which was a pain. Plus are you going to need to access the box? I use usb extentions and aux routed into my upper glove box which had a convenient hole already made so my box is hidden behind the dash with no way to get to it without pulling it apart.

This is the best video i've seen, plus it's the same series as mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhfgwpSiVJI

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
