You're looking for polished. Not chrome. Most are polished... iv never seen a "chromed" cooler setup. Who would waste their cash chroming cooler pipes?

you'll be surprised, I've had 2 kits just flake off with chrome :)

Personally i'd steer clear of china made intercoolers though some have mentioned that their quality control has improved vastly...

the china made ones that i have seen in person...pipings are either porous, bad fitment issues, uneven thickness or have tons of burr that would cut ur hand

the top end greddy kits are beautiful and relatively cheaper, HKS ones are also worth mentioning and Blitz.

Intercoolers while seemingly simple do have some research/tech in them. for example, u want maximum cooling which requires excellent contact of the incoming air with the cooling fins yet u dont want a huge pressure drop. So the tech comes in how efficient is the material used for the fins to absorb convectional heat from the turbo-ed air, then it has to conduct the heat to its outer surface and lose the heat to the cool air passing over it via convection. Some companies manage the restrictive portion by having a special fin layout/design.

hope this helps :)

I have installed plenty of china coolers, some are good, some shit. It is very hard to tell from the picture obviously.

I direct the M35 Stagea guys to HDI, they do some great products, but I think the Skyline kits go under the battery tray. :/

Ye man it does. Might get a mate to help me out when looking for intercoolers because so many things could go wrong with second hand and I'm on a budget, so got to be careful and ensure that the FMIC I get lasts.

I have used the kkr black series for an r34 gtt. Running 10psi. Used as a daily

Pros:

400$ for full kit

Black

Fits with minor cutting

Have had it for 20,000km. With no problems.

Fairly light

Cons:

Piping thickness is slightly thin

Cooler core is not as solid as blitz etc

Fins are not as solid as Japanese brands.

May have to trim thermo fan

Conclusion:

Good bang for buck upgrade for a reliable daily. Would recommend other Jap for a weekend or track car

I am happy with the purchase.

Try having a look at the GK TECH kits. Haven't heard anything bad about them. The distributor is a Melbournian and is a good bloke to deal with. Well priced and are most likely a copy of a high priced jap brand. Cant really go wrong there.

That $50 was just for a universal intercooler no piping, commented to highlight that the cheapies work fine usually. You won't usually see a power difference at low boost and power, yes they are usually more effective than stock but it's your car, if you can afford top end stuff and that's what you want then you should get it. It has been proven by many that the cheaper kits, hdi and cooling pro as mentioned, do the job. Regarding piping. You can always shop around. I had quotes from $450-$1000. I luckily found an exhaust shop run by 2 older blokes who made my piping from scratch for $290 and they spent all day on it. Total cost was $340.
