i've already paid for the turbo what else can i do? he has to put it in and retune it for free if he's ripped me off yeh? i might as well get it done there then get it looked over with another mechanic unless there's another way i can do this :S

Yeah you got shafted alright. Best bed is to build a case up against him (receipts vs what he's actually done, which means getting another professional to look at your). It's going to get pretty tough for you now man. Hopefully he's less of a dick to you the second time round and actually fixes the issues. But that won't happen, because if he was like that, you wouldn't have issues in the first place!

Perhaps look into Fair Trading, maybe ask someone in your state if they know someone who can give you advice on this matter.

surprisingly he was really nice about all this and offered to fix it, guess my anxiety got me stressed for nothing, thanks for all the advice but guys!!

edit: he played around with power fc and fixed the knocking and the high idle, but he reckons a gasket could be leaking now so he's gonna check that out

What about the turbo? Its a highflow but what type and highflowed by who and is that what you're happy with?

just because a part may have NISSAN cast or stamped into it doesnt mean that its made by NISSAN

*sigh* thanks Captain obvious think you're missing the point. An AFTERMARKET Garrett turbo I.e a Garrett GTX3071R wont have a nissan housing like the O.P claims he paid for!

Lol mate its common knowledge who makes the factory turbos so thanks again for pointing out the obvious! As already stated the guy claims he paid for a GTX3071R and he hasn't been given 1!
