evening all,

Right, i am after a bit of advice with regards to this problem.

I have a daily that i drive everyday into work. and the V35 is kept as a weekender / fun car and is lucky to get driven 60km's a month. the car was last serviced back on the 29th January, and here we are in freaking august already, the car has only done 1,200km's since the service. is it any harm in leaving it for another month or two? i now the lubrication of the oil and the contamination occurs, but if its done so few kilometers since the service is this still a factor?

reason i'm trying to leave it ( or simply not drive it), is because i'm heading overseas next month and money is currently tight at the moment. after i come back ofcourse its going to be the first thing on the list to do.

currently using synx3000 with a veruspeed/nismo oil filter

I often work overseas for 5 months at a time. Essentially, I don't bother with servicing my vehicles before I leave. I save it for after I get back, provided I haven't exceeded the required kms before service. Otherwise, if I expect to continue to drive the vehicle for anything less than 500km, I just treat the engine nicely rather than accelerate its balls off as I usually do and then worry about the servicing after the long absence.

It resulted in a well looked after engine in the old Max Sr and it certainly hasn't upset Max Jr in any way. That said, I still get paranoid after the long absences and squirt a bit of oil down the spark plug chambers before kicking the engine over after the change of fluids, just for that extra little bit of love. Many say its overkill, I just call it love. :)

I've left my 200 longer than that - a few months ago I was using it maybe once or twice a month and probably went for a full 12 months, did about 1500km in that time period. No harm done, oil was fairly clean when it came out

And I'm pretty anal about the servicing on all our cars

It should be fine. U actually don't need a service at all til the KMs are due.. You should follow the KMs and not the months.. If you don't drive, your oil should remain new. There is no difference to parking your car there and keeping the oil in a bottle on the shelf.

Until u actually drive the car and use the oils life I would see no point in servicing and changing oil.

E.g. I service my car today and go overseas for 6 months.. When i get back does that mean I must service my car? Even though I haven't driven it?

P.s. I'm a mechanic and this is what we, my work and I have always told the customers. Unless its a new car and has new car warranty, then u must stick to the logbooks to avoid warranty being voided..

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
