Hmmm... I wonder if ECUtalk can connect with a Nistune? I'm guessing yes but I'm unsure.

Try unplugging the ECU and reconnect incase there is a dodgy connection?

Unplug and plug in everything. :D

yeah interesting...seems like the basic checks have been done OK.

it is a standard ECU right? plugging in a powerfc and hand controller might tell you more.

The CAS can fail physically, as can the ignitor so it might be worth swapping both with known working ones. I am near Red HIll today but the stagea runs an r34 cas and no ignitor so I don't think I can help.

It's running a Nistune Chip Duncan.
The strangest thing is it idled and worked this morning for the few seconds until I went to take off.

That's when everything cut out and it just wouldn't start.

Has anyone got an R33 ignitor that I could try unbolting and using?

It's only 4 bolts on the top of the cam cover to remove it :D

I might try the clutch starting idea but I will need to get some mates over to help push it up the hill.

Might try that if the ignitor doesn't work

^^ agreed you have spark but is it a STRONG spark. I assume one of you have a multimeter. Do you have correct volts on ignitor cas afm. Are your grounds good, have you possibly knocked any. Is your solenoid for vct switching correctly (cant recall if your running.it with your nistuned r32 ecu)

obviously start small and obvious but if its just coincidence and there is an actual fault. A multimeter can tell you a lot ecu talk even better if possible.

Didn't change the battery Sin because it had plenty of power to crank the engine about 12 times.

Not sure if that's a mistake and I should have done it anyways.

I haven't got a multimeter so can't test voltages.

I wouldn't know what voltages to expect from each part either.

Does anyone know if ECU talk works with Nistune?

btw when you say you have to push it uphill to clutch start it, is that because your house is right at the bottom of a hill? because you can clutch start in reverse too. If you are careful (clutch and brake as soon as it fires) you can even do it in your driveway, it only takes a couple of klm/h to start a car.

ecutalk should show most of your ecu values and voltages on a PC which can help with spotting a dodgy sensor like an AFM or TPS (by voltage) or even CAS (by seeing fluctuating voltages)

Yeah I have a really steep small driveway that's at the bottom of a hill.

So once it's down the driveway then there is no way I would get it back up there.

Also it would mean leaving the car at the bottom of the hill and pretty far from sight/sound

I would love to roll start it Duncan but it would probably be last resort unless I had some rope to tow it haha

    • That would be interested if it's the case as seems like it would make the job a lot messier but subaru sells OEM gaskets so seems it might of had it.
    • Fuel tank is out. Looks pretty bloody good under (ie above) the fuel tank.  Amazing how good the factory e-coat holds up in the hidden areas.  No where near as much body deadener to get rid of as the front but still not looking forward to it!  Shit of a job.  I'm thinking I might grab a needle scaler and give that a go before I attack it with the angle grinder and wire wheel which is how I did the front 2/3's of the car.  Feels good to be working on the car again but who knows how long it will last!  Hopefully I can get it further forward than where it was prior to this last block of work when I decided to go back 10 steps further down the rabbit hole from where i already was! The problem is, I'm realising how hard it will be to repair and paint the bumpers, which cannot be put back on the car, and have a good paint match. There are also areas where it would be VERY hard to hide the new paint where it transitions from old paint. Like this- There is only one way to do that perfectly and I really dont want to have to do what that means I would have to do... 🤦‍♂️
    • Pretty sure the factory assembly doesn't have any gasket at all, just RTV.
    • I will get a couple cans for sure thanks, I do have 2lt fish oil to spray around the car already.
    • Thought I’d post pics of the packages for those interested. The premium package is #16. Remote start, security with tilt sensor and remote and backup battery, auto fold mirrors and door illumination.    Can post up pics of all the factory options and images from the factory options brochure if people are interested. I have all the dealer books etc for all rv37 models.
