Looking For Someone Near Lynbrook To Have A Look At A Gt-R With Me

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm looking to buy a GT-R and was hoping there was someone knowledgeable about R32 GTR skylines to come have a look at this one with me because I'm not too mechanically minded

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Nissan-Skyline-1993/SSE-AD-1107645

I had a look at it last night and it felt pretty good but I would love a second opinion before I commit to buying.

I'm able to pick up and drop off if that's an issue as well.

Ad says it has done 95,200 km's but engine has done 4,500 km's...

Then it says, "Car is standard except for upgraded turbos (dash 7's), adjustable cam gears, R33 GTR front pipe."

Engine build?

He has some of the receipts, a job involving fixing an engine with failed bearings and receipts for piston rings, but not for the pistons themselves (he said they were forged). I can't remember the name of the workshop but they've since closed down.

How long ago was the engine build done?

Best take a mechanic to check it out or get a reputable garage in Melbourne (who know GTR's) to check it out.

But if all the paper work adds up and matches the car, then should be all good to go.

Also many will ask the seller to do a compression test and that will also help determine the condition of the engine.

The seller should not be trusted to do a compression test and just provide the results, as these can easilly be 'tweaked'.

You should do it yourself, or be present when the seller does it and make sure he's not tipping a bit of oil into the cylinders etc...

Also, forgies would alter results as well right?

165 - 175 is very healthy!

160 is good.

155 is average for a 20 year old engine.

Anything below = "Engine is getting tired", which is expected for a 20 year old engine...

But if seller says it has new Piston Rings and along with a few other internals, the compression should be nice and high.
